A little more than a year ago, my dad introduced me to the RTS that started it all: Total Annihilation. It was a great game with heavy tanks, irritating artillery shells, and game ending nuclear weapons, but it was also slow and chunky compared to today's games. So the next day, I looked on steam for any other modern day replacements. Just turned out that the day I was looking was the day that this game was first released on open beta.
Compared to TA, PA keeps some of the original features from the mother game (and adds a few new ones). Most of the units are based off of units from TA. They also added a brand new unit class: satellites. And what good would satellites do without symmetrical planets and the ability to bring the battle to multiple planets? In my opinion, nothing is better than having your base half wiped out just in time for sweet revenge by annihilating my opponent's base with a moon. Great multi player game in my opinion.
Most people have given negative reviews due to the poor AI. I Never got too involved with single player games in PA, so I don't know how the AI behaves in PA. But I will agree that the lack of a tutorial leaves people clueless on how to play. I managed to learn the game by myself since the controls and units are highly similar to Total Annihilation (minus the metal makers, which I wish they would soon add). But in my opinion, this game is still definitely worth a shot for those who like multi-player RTS games.
