Just a question for those who kickstarted this for $90.
Would you be angry at me or other people if they got early access to the game on steam for less?

Now, hear me out, there is one thing I'm taking as a given here (which is probably not true).

Uber has stated: The only (or main) reason the game is being released for $90 is to not make you angry.

But seriously, wouldn't you be happier if you had more people to play the game with? I mean if it was cheaper than $90 (say even $60) than I would be playing with you right now (and I mean, just look at my avatar and name. I mean I'm pretty boss).

That's not the only reason not to be angry. If it was cheaper then wouldn't there be less ♥♥♥♥♥ing and moaning on the forums about the price, and more discussions about the actual game?

How about bugs in the game? if more people were playing then there would be more feedback too.

The thing that really grinds my gears about buyers saying that people would be upset if they dropped the price is the fact that they are trying to put an idea in your head that you should be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off at your fellow gamer if they get a better deal than you do.

Of course, when you kickstarted the game you were supporting a game that might not have become a reality unless you supported it. This is how I've felt for every single thing I've ever kickstarted (I'll admit the list is not extensive). But Uber already hit their goal, by their own metric they should have enough money and then some to finish this game, everything else is just gravy.

Also when you were giving money on kickstarter you could actually see a goal list being fufilled and know that if you did pledge that extra money, that those features were going to be closer to being fufilled.

So my argument is when you payed $90 on kickstarter, you got more for your money. I know that it doesn't come down to features in the end, but you supported a game that might not have been made and you also got to see what features would be added if you decided to pledge more. On steam we don't get a list of added promised features if we pay more, and the game is already a sure thing.

I will be probably be buying it when the price comes down, till then happy gaming.

I figured a better price tiering would have been
KS: $20 / $40 / $90
Steam & Uberent store pre-release (not EA because EA is stupid..): $30 / $50 / $100
Release: $40

So no, I think you should pay *more* than those who were silly enough to pay $90 :3

You get the same added things for the $90 value as those who paid $90, and with a lot less risk. Also, although I did not opt for the $90 Alpha package, I would still be someone annoyed if Uber dropped the Alpha price.

Don't forget, the KS was last year. There was no game engine - we pledged on the idea that they could create something fun that we wanted in the future. We took a great risk and had to wait for something to come together.

The game is still not complete, but there is a working game engine, with UI, and even working network code. That is a good start of the guts of game, and there is a lot less risk now to get in and support the early development of the game. Also - if you buy Alpha access now, you get instant access to the current build of the game.

Also - For those who don't want to pay $90, they can order the beta for $60 or wait for retail for $40. Both, I think, are very fair prices for what this game offers.

To be angry over having to wait from now till end of development for retail, while being able to see the game evolve in players hands, just doesn't make sense to me. But then, I'm excited about this game.

(edit: typo, too sick to type well..)

My question is why would you be annoyed that other people didn't pay as much as you did. As you said you pledged on the idea that they could create something fun in the future. People "pledging" $90 now are just buying early access, the games completion doesn't hinge on them paying that much.

because you are buying the same thing as the people who pledged $90 without the risk, and getting the exact same thing (without waiting half a year)

MindALot, which KS tier did you choose?

If they had done so originaly I would not have been angry, since I would have understoood they are now marketing the game to a different audience with different concepts of value.

If they dropped the price now I would be very angry, not because people are getting a "better deal" than me, but because I would percieve it as Uber caving in to pathetic troll whiners.

But you pledged to have the game created, and you also contributed to more features being added.

You seem to have missed my point.

Sorry I was responding to mindalot, I should've quoted him for clarity.

I'm sure that the devs have heard all this before (that their pricing is backwards, etc.). But The_Bank is correct- there's a very large difference between paying to fund an idea and paying for a game. It's my (personal) opinion (although it doesn't seem too far fetched) that this game isn't worth 90 $. If I had known about this game I might have paid 90 $ to fund it, but that's not what we're doing now. We're buying. And I just don't quite see a ninety dollar value out of this game.

Edit: I mean really, this is one of the most expensive games to ever be released. While it may be lots of fun and a jolly good time, I think it's a stretch to say it's one of the best games of all time (which it should be, for the cost). Furthermore, other games that have had similar price tags have at least gone in with past history of successful games and/or a large following.

but you don't have to pay $90 to get the game. It will retail for $40. You only have to pay the same premium the KS people had to pledge, to get early Alpha access.

No, you fund it. All money that Uber get from Steam now will go to further development:

I went for the $50 tier. I wanted Beta access .. well, I wanted Alpha.. but I couldn't justify the extra cost. Not that I feel they charged to much for it, it just wasn't within my personal game spending budget.

If I did go up to $90, it would have been specifically for Alpha access. And I would have been annoyed with Uber if they dropped the cost of Alpha access to other people just to get more early sales.
Note I said annoyed. I might have complained on Uber forums or reddit, but I wouldn't be raging all over the place. Some others might have, and I would understand the rage.

Also .. I'm still pondering trying to pay the difference to get into Alpha. I know it's buggy, but it looks like fun to me, and I'm itching to get into a few games against people to see how horrible I am at this game.

Kickstarter backer here. I wouldn't feel it fair that people get the alpha for less than $90. This game only exists because of people like me. If you think the price is too high wait for beta. No one is forcing money out of your wallet.

Trust me in that this game is incredible and will be a ton of fun when released, but the current alpha does have bugs and not everything is working yet. I'd simply forget about this game until the beta comes out then think about jumping in.
