If you pay $90 for this game, you send a message to developers.
Saying that gamers are willing to pay $90+ for games.

When the consoles of the previous generation began charging $59.99 (after games had been $49.99) for years) and people had no issue PAYING that much, the trend took, and now many new PC GAMES are costing $60.

I can easily see this become 65, 70$ for PC and upwards.

By supporting this game in its ALPHA stage, you send a message to developers that this kind of pricepoint is okay for gamers, and thus you make everything end up costing this much.

"Hey guys! Buy our game before it's released to support us, and we'll give you a negative 150% discount!

BUT WAIT!

If you buy our game EVEN BEFORE it's before it's released, we'll give you an additional negative 50% absolutely not free! This discount is to show our gratitude!.

BUT WAIIIIIIIIIIIIIT.

If you order in the next ten minutes, we'll wear leather clothing and spit on you while putting out our cigarette butts on your face at no charge! (there will be a charge).

COOWABBBUNNGA!"

that's why I intend to wait until official release. I like this game so bad, but 90 or 80$ is excessive.

Usually, games that cost 50 or 60$ worth much less in real value. This game however, is worth the 50 or 60$, I hope they don't make us pay 80 or 90 even at release

PS And yeah, I agree with OP about pricing in games. I was playing PC games since 1996, when they costed between 30 and 40 euros (the euro didn't exist by then, but it's more or less the equivalence) Of course, we also have to take into account the inflation of the economy, but I think the prices are growing far too fast than the economy itself. I wish the content also grew that fast, because in general, EA games, or any other known publisher usually add one or two cool mechanics to their games, and then set a high price for it

Yes, because I am just "imagining" the inflated cost of video games since I was a kid ... how old are you, anyway?

Nowadays, games + DLC require close to $70-80 for the "full package", and this kind of crap (from an INDIE GAME in ALPHA) will, if hugely succesful, give developers more incentive to charge higher prices.

They'll say, "Hmm, if THESE guys can do it, then so can we."

Why, because they SAID so? All you can go by is how things stand NOW. Who knows when release will be? Sure, they give estimates, but who knows? For all we know, this could stay in "Alpha" for 2 more years.

Minecraft was being played religiously LONG before its official release.

I dont know how old you are or were the fudge you have been living. but prices has gone down alot since I grew up.... I remember buying Age of empires 2 for 50$ and the expansion for 30$. I bought Borderlands 2 at release for 25$... so get out of your cave

Games are cheaper now than when I was a kid.

I recall paying around $80 for SNES games and $100 for N64 games.

Should update it to say

The alpha alone costs $30, The beta alone costs $20, is it really ok to pay $30 for an ALPHA, look at the alpha footage on youtube and tell me youd want to pay $30 for that?

Also, this game IS RELEASED.

Don't kid yourself with this "get access now BS". If a game is up for $80 and you can pay for it then play it, it's freaking released. This new "fad" that minecraft (a great game, I'll admit) started is an excuse for modern-day developers to rake in the cash while using the excuse that anything bad with their game needs to be forgiven because it's "just" alpha.

Its a choice you decide. noone is forcing you to, or is someone pointing a gun at you?

Well, console games are playing in another league. They are usually expensive because a bunch of companies own that market. PC games are different, and usually cheaper

The game is not released, its in alpha, after alpha comes beta. after beta you reach gold and THEN the game is released. Theres a huge difference in 1 guy developing his own game with a whole company with developers, designers, programmers, etc. They cost money, they require a salary. Notch was alone at the beggining and he managed his own salary and living. HE didnt have to PAY someone else.

Im gone buy the 90$ one, just to ♥♥♥♥ you people and say to the dev great work keep it up. They are being flamed by you guys for there honesty, something that almost no company does these days. If you dont want to pay it just wait or but the pre order on their site for 40$ or beta access for 60$. or a cosmic edition for 200$

Come now. Let us not pretend the lines between released and pre-released have not become utterly blurred.

In the traditional sense of the word release, which is defined as follows: "To make known or available." This game is clearly released.

Let's use some actual objectivity here, shall we? You expect me to believe that a game that's for sale, playable, and overpriced, "Isn't out yet."

"Oh! You can't judge this game yet, because it's not even out yet! It's not been released yet. I mean, sure, you can pay $80 for it and play it and whatever, but it's not ... it's not out."

It is out. It is an incomplete game being sold for double what it's worth. That's the fact.
