Games similar to Kairo?
I'm absolutely nuts about this game. I like it's simplicity while it still manages to be surreal, and quite obviously there's a deeper story behind it all, which we the players get to put together in our minds.

The music and the feel of isolation... that overwhelming solitude. I absolutely love this game. I wish to know if there are more like it; although I no doubt already have a couple. NaissancE is also one I'm nuts about. It's hard to find games that can capture that surreal lonely feel as well as say, Kairo or NaissancE.

KHOLAT had that feel of being alone but it doesn't really fall into the surreal category IMO. I have Ether One and Ethan Carter and also Dear Esther. Miasmata also gives one that lonely feel but again not quite in the surreal sense.

Does anyone have any suggestions at all for games I don't already own?

That having said I'd love to know if there will be a sequel or some such for Kairo; maybe set in the same universe or some such.

Antichamber. It's a first-person puzzle game with similiar ambiance. It's more focused on puzzles, but still very much similiar to Kairo.

I really like Kairo and I like Antichamber for the same reasons.

... XD I own that game also. Very good game too. Some of the puzzles in it were really challenging, as were finding the purple squares. Wonderful game! :/ I have this dreadful feeling that I already own most games similar to Kairo like that, but still hoping someone will mention a gem I don't have yet.
Without knowing what you have that is very much possible. Another game that hit the store recently and is free to play with a similar feel is Red Trigger. Its short but has that minimalist vibe and is more akin to anti-chamber with is puzzle focus. Definitely worth a look.

Recently stumbled upon a game called The Solus Project. You can perhaps try to deduce from gameplay footages whether it will fit your taste.

Rememoried also appeals as one providing ambience and visual impressions.

Name those games you have, even if they have already been put in this thread.

Mmm, lets see...

Kairo, NaissancÉ, rememoried, refunct, cradle, Antichamber, Ether One, Time Frame, Niko: Through the dream, Old City: Leviathan, Polarity, Mind: Path to thalamus, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, the Void, Trauma, Euclidean. Some of these imo don't belong in the same category as Kairo but I thought I'd mention them anyway because they're a 1rst person kind of a deal. Solus project does kind of interest me!

Good move to expand horizons.

Lets distinguish the exploration-themed games from those harder on the puzzle aspect.

Recently I discovered Parallax, regarding the pure first perspective puzzlers, though it seems a bit on the pricey side. On the Antichamber forum someone gave a notice about the incoming release of a product named Manifold Garden. Though seeming like deemed to success, I am afraid it will fall short, inevitably being compared to Antichamber. Unless the price is very approachable, which is rather unexpected, at least shortly after the premiere.

I bet you heard of Talos Principle and Portal?

Thank you - they both look very interesting. I'm actually very curious about manifold garden; endless mathematical patterns and such. Parallax looks good too; I'll probably try it.
It would be an overexaggeration to say the game is similar to Kairo, but still a puzzle one:

I really don't trust teh video; how is the game? I've heard very splitty opinions about it so I'm curious to hear from someone who played it directly.

You would need to ask someone else. When it comes to my intuition, I say seven euro/dollars is too much. Forfeited it. Seems though as the darkest thing on STEAM.

What about Yume Nikki?
I said Kalendula is the darkest thing on STEAM. Is Yume Nikki on STEAM?
Sorry about the wording, I was answering OP's question. Yume Nikki does get pretty dark, though.
