The Last Remnant

The Last Remnant

TLR.exe runs for a second then dissapears
Failed to start game (app already running) is the occurring theme it seems to be.
My specs
OS: Windows XP 64 bit SP2
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 3.22 GHZ
Ram: 8 GB
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6870

Verified the game cache, re-downloaded and re-installed, do not have kaspersky, rebooted steam and computer multiple times.. Virtually all common sense answers have been addressed. Help would be much appreciated.

App already running?? That's very strange, especially after a reboot.

Have you looked in the Windows event log? Just search on... oh, XP. Just go to the control panel, select the administration stuff, and double click on the Event Viewer right after you try starting the game. There may be something in the application section that gives you some sort of hint about the error.

You can also try renaming the Movies directory, which is inside the RushGame directory. If that makes it so the game works then you probably have a codex issue.
Yea it is very strange.... Cannot for the life of me figure out what the problem is. I have looked at the windows even log and it has shown nothing about it, nothing at all. I do not know if there is a log in the game itself that shows errors or not. I tried to rename the directory, and it has done nothing. I am not sure where to go from here. Thank you for your help thus far good sir.
No message at all in the event log!?!? That's even stranger - and terribly annoying. How are you supposed to fix something with no error message at all?

If there's a log, it will probably be in My Documents\My Games\The last remant\.

The game uses the Unreal engine so you might be able to find some help searching on that.
Yes it is terribly annoying.... Second day straight trying to figure out how to fix it going through every forum and possible solution that has been given. There is no file of it in My Games, it is all through my program files. I will start searching meow.

That is what I have found in terms of Logs.
Wait a second, XP service pack TWO? Why aren't you using SP3??
Because Windows XP 64bit does not have a SP3.
sp2 should not the point.. but let me ask, which catalyst driver version did you use ?
*edit + some searches later*
according to the offical homepage and the store page, XP 64bit is not supported , but vista 64 works.. but i found also some users who say the run it under xp64bit ..
as the log says.. it may be soundcard/driver related (open al init fails) , so next question : your soundcard is .. ? (and dont say only onboard, if its onboard sound and you dont know the chip, then say motherboard's name :D )

Hoping this what you are asking me, and my mobo is ASUS M3A78-CM.
yes , the amd part here is from the graphics card, but its useless for us, if you dont use your sound over the GC from amd/ati , the VIA Drivers are not really the "latest" (from the via homepage itself) , but the latest from the asus hp

(i give no guarrantee that this works, so be prepared to revert the driver)

what you can try is , check your mobo in the web for the chip since the asus hp dont clearly show it (or use diagnostic tools) , you should find : VIA VT1708B (according to : http://www.planet3dnow.de/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=356515 , yes the link is german, but the details are clear i think) , as the chipname, this is important to find the right driver on the via homepage and install these..

it MAY help (since the error is from openal , which is a sound libary) , but as i earlier wrote , TLR is not (really?) comp. with xp64bit :/

if that not help, i dont know anything ... but maybe you want switch to vista64 if you can (and your programs , games etc. work) since TLR is supported with vista 64bit (it works with 64bit versions from w7 and w8 too) , but this choice can only chosen by you ;)
