Key assignments
Hi,

Following your numerous requests, the dev team of Mars War Logs invites you to follow this guide to change the key assignment of the game:

Go in the folder “Documents/Mars – War Logs” and open the file “commands_config.txt”.

In this file you can change the assignment of the keys. There are two keyboards’ configurations (QWERTY and AZERTY) divided into five categories:

- Movement Keys;

- Fight Keys;

- Skills and binding Keys;

- Interaction Keys;

- Ingame Menu Keys.

Go in the category you wish to edit.
Search for the corresponding command, for instance “MOVEMENT_FORWARD” to change the key to move forward. Change the value after the sign “=”, and delete the “;” at the start of the command.

Save and close the file.
The changes will be effective the next time you’ll launch the game.

Thank you for your patience.

Nice! Thank you very much for fixing the keymap and fov requests. I am now purchasing the game and looking forward to playing it.

Thanks. I noticed "interaction_right=" was missing my config file, might want to fix that. By adding that in I found out that it controls the 'Talk to companion' and 'Finish off' actions, was annoying not being able to change that from the default E key, since I use ESDF for movement.

Trough im happy for the Dev to share this with us, i have to say that its odd to launch a game in 2013 without key bindings, there is a lots of people that dont use wsad like me to play, so use the cursor and other far way keys its very painless and annoying, without the fact that any people should play the way they want, its not that hard to make possible people change keys.
But thanks for the effort, regards,

I had to use both controller and keyboard to play this game. For controller the camera controls were too weak, and I could not zoom away from character. When playing with keyboard I could not find correct key to open the door sometimes (moving to new area).

The biggest weakness for this game is currently the controls ...

Just checked that file and it reads following:

;Talk to companion
;INTERACTION_UP=enter

Umm, should it read ...

;Loot/open doors=some button
;Change level/Finish off=some button
;Talk to companion=some button

Anyway I can not find the change level button in keyboard and have to use controller for that ...

I've just purchased the game, and this rebind process does not appear to work for me. I've rebound keys in a similar way for other games, so I understand the importance of syntax, etc. I can probably solve this on my own, but I need some guidance.

In the OP, Freki says that the document to edit is "commands_config.txt", but I had only "commands_config_default.txt" so I backed that up, and made changes to "default" and also to a renamed "commands_config.txt". On restart, the bindings are not changed. Is "commands_config.txt" the only file needed for the changes? Is that filename correct?

What happens if "commands_config.txt" contains incompatible or duplicake keybinds? Will all of the changes be rejected, or will some be implemented?

Nevermind, I got AutoHotKey to work instead. Since it gave error messages, that was more feedback than the config.txt file was doing. For anyone else having issues, here's the entire .AHK file I'm using:

#IfWinActive, Mars: War Logs
Numpad8::w
Numpad2::s
Numpad4::a
Numpad6::d
NumpadEnter::LShift
NumpadDot::space
Numpad0::x
NumpadAdd::f
NumpadSub::q
\::i
home::Tab
;NumpadMult:: future assignment
return

After less than 30 minutes of play, I saved and came looking for this. Thanks! Hopefully it works better for me than for some people ...

ETA: It did work, although I initially screwed it up by not removing the semicolon before the bindings I changed. Follow those instructions, kids! lol

This doesn't work for me, either.
I only had a commands_config_default.txt. If this is the standard config, the instructions should change to prevent confusion. If its absence is because of older version, that should also be mentioned. I use steam to keep updated, so this is unlikely.
So I edited the *_defaults.txt file, copied it to commands_config.txt, restarted many times and still don't have the new bindings. I used vim so the line endings shouldn't have changed.
Will it barf (hopefully into a log file) if it encounters an error while parsing?

Any ideas?

You have to edit the "commands_config.txt" file in your "user/your name/dokuments/Mars - War Logs" folder, not in the game directory.

What about customizing the controller? Right Bumber for block is way more efficient than B.
Sander Brown Oct 3, 2013 @ 2:44am
How about making it freaking simpler by actually integrating the key binding option into the game?! This is like buying a car and finding out that in order to drive it, you need to rewire ignition plugs and the steering wheel can only be controlled every 10 min and only by your left foot. Devs, get on with it!
