Doesn't appear to be gone for me.

Nope, still there, although it inaccurate since the game is not a simulator, walking or any other kind.

^ALL games are simulators of some kind. I suppose it is arguable if this is really a game though ;)

Of course they are. But it's also abundantly clear what the term 'simulator' means when defining a game (sub)genre and what it entails for most gamers. And this game doesn't fit.

walking simulator does decribe this game better then any other term i have heard.

No it doesn't. Everyone who uses this term, and I suspect you too, just feels it's "rightfully derogatory" towards a game they hate, but they wrap the insult in a genre name to make it seem more factual. That's just sad.
An actual "walking simulator" would include getting tired, getting injured, walking equipment, various walking "venues" etc etc

I dont hate the game i can atually see how some folks can enjoy it. And hey if it gets cheaper like 5 euro or less i migth buy it.
And i am aware its not actually a walking simulator. But calling it a walking simulator to tell potensial customers that this is a game were you mostly walk around and look at things is a good idea.
It is very important that gamers are given accurate information about the game they are about to buy and that this iformation does not spoil the game. And i think calling it a walking simulator manages to do that. Now if somone else can come up whit a better term for this kind of game then that would be great.

And I suppose you also think it's a good idea to call FIFA or PES a running simulator because you mostly run and kick a ball?
Lars166 Feb 18, 2014 @ 3:02pm
Well you could but i think most pepole get what its about if you call it a football/soccer game.

Exactly.
And a 'walking simulator' does a p*ss-poof job of that, as it doesn't entail anything a player would expect from a subgenre with 'simulator' attached to it.

But then the reason people are calling this a walking simulator, is because they are dissatisfied with its value to be anything more than a walking simulator.

You could say that, and I'd tell you it's a too euphemistic of a way of explaining it, and that you're giving players too much credit. I stand by what I said in the third post.

As for me, this tag looks like a stupid and also misleading joke. Gone Home doesn't have complex gameplay, that is true, but it is not a poorly-made game. It is meant to make you learn an amazing story... feel the atmosphere, laught at the jokes! And it does the job pretty well. You don't need any other action options, besides walking and looking. Maybe it will be fair to add a warning for munchkins, though. Telling them, that you can't level up in this game. )

Oh woe is me, a random internet troll is trying to insult me by linking a video because he's incapable of putting a sentence together.
