Why do you care?
I see a lot of people claiming this isn't a game or games like this are ruining Steam and my quetion to you is this. Why do you care? Why do you care if someone you don't know buys it or that it got showered with awards?

Does it really effect you in anyway, shape, and/or form if this is labled a game? Does it effect you that it won awards? Does it effect you if someone you know or don't know buys this? Hint: It doesn't. You don't have to like the game but insulting peoiple because thety bought and liked the game is just low.

People are mad because they expected a 10/10 game because of ridiculous reviews from retarded game journalists that praise the game as the second coming of Jesus, but instead got a 2-hour 'game' with a mediocre story that cost 20 dollars.

If it weren't so overhyped and had like, a 6/10, nobody would care, but gaming journalists felt the need to pander to SJW's. Gaming journalism is dead.

Because in 2014 people only read review scores without actually reading reviews to see the context of the score, then complain with their illiterate ramblings because they bought something they didn't understand. In a time when you can go on Youtube and see someone play any game in their entirety, people have no excuse to blame press for their ignorance.

Then please be mad at the journalists or just choose a reviewer whose tase is much better aligned with yours. This is not the fault of the game.

Well, Aicanaro's answer is honest, though. Some people think this game isn't as good as some other people said it was, and they perceive an injustice (which one? to whom?) and they get upset about it.

What I don't believe is that even though he writes, "Gaming journalism is dead", he'll stop reading what gaming journalists write.
(Gaming journalism has rarely been motivating me to try out a game, but when it did, I generally didn't regret it. I don't think it's dead.)

All the big gaming journalism sites like Gamespot and IGN are paid for good reviews, other lesser sites like Kotaku are SJW whining platforms about how the latest game doesn't have a black transgender kid with autism.

I understand that, but that still isn't the game's fault.

You didn't like the story? Fine.

You think the game is too short for its price? Alright.

Didn't like the lack of interactivity and player influence on the story's progression? You're welcome.

Those are all valid complaints to make. Criticizing the game simply because you disagree with other people's opinions is not.

The Escapist is pretty good for reviews.

Rolls eyes LOL you guys are just so much smarter than the rest of us who don't like this POS game.
It's ok to not like this game, that's not a matter of smartness. To buy this game and not like it for reasons mentioned in most reviews, and then to whine about it on the forums is not.

I don't care that you hate this game. I just find it pathetic that you want to blame everyone but yourself when it is so easy to find all the information you need about a game before buying it.

Not blaming anyone. Why put a obvious fake metascore on the store page?
Do you even know how a metascore is generated? So you disagree with these guys' gaming tastes; that doesn't mean the score is fake. Note that a high metascore doesn't mean "everyone will love this game". It means "most of US who make this score liked this game".

You can hate this game, that's up to your own taste. That doesn't mean scores are fake, players who liked it are stupid or, even worse, that they all lied to you to cajole you into playing it.

This is a rather weak excuse to avoid criticism, by this logic why do so many people feel the need to turn their nose up at CoD and act exasperated about how it's ruining the game's industry and how everyone who plays it is just another mindless 'dudebro'?

People are free to express their opinions of a game, whether you agree with that opinion or not.

I personally feel that this game was undeserving of a lot of the awards and praise it's recieved.

Conversely, does it affect you that people dislike this game and feel it's a waste of money and that it's a pretenious excuse for a visual novel? Are you beginning to see how this line of reasoning is pointless and doesn't really answer or address anything?

As for people insulting you over your choice of games, I would have to reccomend that you try the mature thing of just ignoring them and getting on with your day.

Insults are just words, even less than that on here (where they're just lines of data formed into words), ignoring them strips them of their power completely.

Critcism for a game is one thing. Saying the game is ruining Steam and/or insulting the people who bought it and like it is something entirely different to me. Basically, I want to know why people hate on others for liking something they don't. It just seem really illogical to me.

I was hoping someone in this thread was going to give me a well thought out and lengthy answer. So far though I have been left disappointed.

Basically I want to know why they care so much about something so insignificant.

That still falls under the umbrella of criticism, it's just the manner and intellectual worth of the criticism that is called into question (and without citations of what statements you're referring to exactly I can't argue that one way or the other).

It is inevitable that in the course of discussions about things like this that you're eventually going to stumble across words, statements and opinions that hurt your feelings, offend your sensabilities and are an afront to your beliefs.

Basically, I want to know why people hate on others for liking something they don't. It just seem really illogical to me.

This isn't really a new thing, people have been doing this sort of thing throughout history and will no doubt continue to do so long into the future (hell, look at religious conflicts), you're essentially asking 'why can't we all just get along?'.

I was hoping someone in this thread was going to give me a well thought out and lengthy answer. So far though I have been left disappointed.

The urge to impersonate Kevin Sorbo is strong.

Speaking seriously though, I will indulge you in a lengthy and in-detail essay on the reasons behind the disappointment (sorry) in Gone Home (I don't have it now but it is a work in progress as we speak type).

Basically I want to know why they care so much about something so insignificant.

You are aware that question can be turned around on you, right? Why do you care that people like myself don't like Gone Home?

There are quite a few games that I like that are often dissed and demonised by other people and their opinion on it doesn't matter to me in the slightest due to the fact that I don't need the approval of others to enjoy the games I do.
