I keep seeing criticisms of the fact it's not haunted, but that was one of the things I loved about this game. Overall, it was immersive enough that it gave me the RL "dark out, home alone, stuff's creaking, I'm kind of creeped out even though I don't believe in ghosts and I'm confident there is no serial killer in the closet" feeling.

I also LOL'd when I saw a note on a bulletin board outside Sam's bedroom that said something like "Sam, stop leaving all the lights on, I swear you're as bad as your sister - Dad" because, well, I did, in fact, turn on every freaking light I could find and left them on. That note might as well have said "Sam, stop leaving all the lights on. I swear you're as bad as the scaredy-cat playing this video game who has no regard for this fictional family's electric bill. - Devs"

So no, as you have already been informed, the house is not haunted. It is just big, empty and creepy, so screw this fictional family's electric bill.

It was a weird moment for me, because I had actually made a point of turning off lights in a room when I was done, as well as closing drawers, etc.

Apprently your version of Kaitlyn matured more than mine on that trip.

"Mom, Dad, welcome home! Bad news is, Sam ran off with her girlfriend. But the good news is, I learned how to turn off lights on my trip, so with me back and her gone, the electrical bill will be lower!"

No, it's just the storm and creeking that is really creepy but it's not haunted.

Nope! There won't be any ghosts or jumpscares. But just like in real life, it's still pretty scary when stuff like this coincidentally happens :)
And who knows... Oscar might be pulling some strings from beyond. But we won't be able to tell.
I love scary games. But this exact moment was one of the most scary moments I've experienced in gaming... Maybe because feels so real and the scary stuff is all an imagination?
So I totally understand your reaction.

This was the peak. It will not get scarier than this.

It's a great story, so I hope you'll find the motivation to continue...
