Quake 2: Error Local Map Version Differs From Server (WinXP Steam)
If I try to load a saved game I sometimes get a console message "Quake 2: Error Local Map Version Differs From Server" and the game stops.

I play ONLY single-player. So what does a "server" have anything to do with the game?

I noted that there is other console text, example:

GL_Ext_Shared_Texture_Palette not found

Why or how can textures be different on the same local system?

Where are these "shared" textures located? In the *.pak files?

UPDATE: If I start a New Game at a given level, and play through without rebooting my rig, I can reload saves with no problem. BUT come the next day and I boot my rig then launch Quake 2 I can never recover a saved game.

thats weird.. I know they had an issue where if you had an earlier version and updated to a newer version, the game will give that message.

No, this is a recent Steam install.
