No servers available.
Is this a glitch because I was able to play online in the original Quake, but I can't find a server in Quake II.

or you can download q2 pro. it has an ingame server brower
http://skuller.net/q2pro/nightly/q2pro-client_win32_x86.zip
install in your q2 steam folder. rename q2pro.exe to quake2.exe

Yep - Q2Pro will help. Otherwise. go to:
http://tastyspleen.net/quake/servers/list.cgi
and put the IP in your address book, or just type (for e.g.) in console:
connect 67.228.69.114:27916

I was just on there, but now having a break - there were 8 players, but at the right time you'll get 16 (which will then be full). There is another very busy one too:
connect 67.228.69.114:27912

Then, there is ACMECTF - very busy most nights (early am here in the UK) Webby:
http://acmectf.com/acme/
If you like CTF mode, with offhand hook (bind a key for +hook) - it's pretty fast tho.

Then there are other servers, too ...

Also, make sure you've got the latest patch.
