Does the game have micro-transactions?
There's the same game on Google Play. That one has micro-transactions. I am wondering if this one has them too

Yep. Bloated out with all the money grabbing micro-transactions you've come to know and loath from mobile games.

They really need to state on the store page that this is a pay-to-win game. If Steam is going to keep allowing games like this on, then they have to borrow from mobile stores and display 1) That a game has in app purchases 2) how much they are and for what. Since it doesn't register as DLC etc.

The indignation comes from it at no point mentioning the in game purchases on the store page. At the very least it should inform people prior to purchase. And I did not say pay-to-play.

It's a shame because the game it self is a great little meta RPG. Then you play it and find that it's focused around gold, which is slow to grind.

I also found it interesting that in the screen shots it shows the in game currency with a $ sign, yet the current version uses gold. Which makes me curious why the change.

1. This game is not pay to win because there are no pay to win single player games.
2. This game is grindy but it is an RPG, don't expect any goodies early unless you bought the deluxe edition.
3. The In-app purchases start at 99 cents and end at 5 dollars but they shouldn't be in the game in the first place.

Been playing for the last hour or so since I was able to download it and it is exactly what I expected but with less witty commentary and funny moments.(Still waiting on those.)

1) I disagree, I think the term pay-to-win applies perfectly well to any game where winning is made more easy by opening your wallet more and more. Be that the real money AH on D3 (a game which beyond it's AH bizaroness I enjoy) or this small indie game. When game mechanics operate off of a system you can inject funds into via cash. It is paying money to win the game.

2) There is nothing inheritly evil about a grindy game if the player finds fun in that grind. What is always akward about these types of games is that you can never be sure just what the grind was balanced around. If it's balanecd around what is "good fun" then why would people buy gold? If it's balanced around encouraging gold purchases, then it feels dishonest.

Actually the fact the deluxe edition gives you a big pile of gold and such is actually rather concerning. Similar to games where DLC makes you start with insanely over powered weapons, it can horribly break the balance of the game.

But if that 800 gold etc doesn't adversly impact the gameplay, then does that mean the game is geared around having that much gold? How long does it take to earn that?

3) I realise the dev has posted on this topic to great extent, but to bump the price up then still charge like this just seems wrong. It doesn't matter how a deal was struck between who.

Just update the store page, let people know the game has gold buying.

I'll tell you this now Lego, I bought the Deluxe edition and the room items I bought with that gold have been making me speed through these early levels and pretty much makes a group of 5 elites 0-3 levels above me trivial. I agree with your pay-to-win statement and I do see it very plainly in this game.

I also hate the fact that when I ran low on gold and tried to travel I was asked if I would like to purchase more gold. Makes it hard to forget there are in-app purchases with crap like that.
Lego Jun 18, 2013 @ 3:17am
Yeah, I've just started to see the pay wall increase.

At first as I started to play I was getting into it, getting momentum. Then adding the 4th party member and suddenly the price is not only 12g for the chair, but another 80g (up from what, 10?). Fights don't seem to be rewarding nearly a linearly increasing value in gold either. They are harder with more monsters, great. But the gold seems tragicly low for each win.

So ultimately it seems this handles like any of these types of games, to start with you progress at a fast enough pace to keep you interested, but soon enough suddenly the in game resource runs dry and doesn't seem to be flowing nearly as quickly as before.

It's such a huge shame too, because the game it self is rather enjoyable. I agree it's hard to forget about micro-transactions when you're constantly hitting up against reminders to cash in for some gold.
Derpy Squid Jun 18, 2013 @ 3:27am
When you've gotten into the game you'll find which foes that gives you the best gold per fight. I just earned 1000 gold in a few minutes. 90~ gold per fight against seven lower level foes.
The in-game purchases only exist for those not willing to grind a bit.
Malicius Jun 18, 2013 @ 3:33am
It's not about paying to win or whatever, it's about the fact that a microtransactions system inside a "rpg" like this totally ruins the atmosphere.
Moreover, if they wanted the microtrans so hard, they could at least keep the price lower.

I won't buy this
Sabin Jun 18, 2013 @ 3:37am
Oh, I see you've run out of gold trying to travel this road to your next objective, haha snork. Want to buy some extra gold? It's only $5! Go ask your mummies, boys and girls!

500% price hike *and* IAP, just like we said before it launched but hey, we're just whining entitled kiddies, right?
Mr_hanky Jun 18, 2013 @ 3:37am
Thanks for the warning, i was thinking about buying this, but yeah i had my fill of p2w games this month:)

I agree, customers should be informed first at least. That aint gonna win my trust

Save your indignation for real issues. Lego you are full of it. It is just for gold, and it is utterly optional. It won't need to use it at all.

Micro-transactions in a SINGLEPLAYER game? It's fine in a f2p MMO as long as it doesn't have items that are superior and/or unatainable by normal currency; since the store here functions almost like a GTA cheat code (get money etc) having to actually BUY them with real money is so absolutely backwards there is no word to literally *describe* how bad of a decision that was to implement into the PC version.

There is a difference between:
1) f2p iOS games/apps and f2p PC games with in-game stores.

and

2) a $10 ($15 for deluxe) single player game with *no* multiplayer and is *not* free, with micro-transactions/in-game store.

The decision is so wrong it rivals WarZ. I enjoyed the iOS game, but eventually stumbled on having to almost puchasing in the store to continue, because I screwed up. Screwing up in a game you should either be able to start from a earlier save, or make a new save. Not buy something from a store.

This is even worse than p2w because at least they are MMO's; this being a single player game with no competition against other players is as if Game Tycoon would have had an in-game store to buy money (which is among the many things you can actually BUY in Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition & the iOS edition.)

The devs shouldn't even be allowed to call themselves devs, they rival EA in terms of sprinting after peoples wallets. If you actually defend this you are just as bad -if not worse- for allowing this to continue. I have people like you to thank for how the gaming industry is now, before it was all about making fun games, making games that they could be proud of, now it's COD with "expansions" including only new maps! In-game stores where you can buy items to skip grinding, games that actually are designed around being a second job - so buying items with real money makes it FUN.

Xbox One with it's kinect camera and restrictive freedom (used games don't work etc) and Sony removing the only feature I bought it for: Free Online; now costs money just like Xbox Live, and people will support this, companies push to see exactly how far they can screw with their consumers, and those consumers are at fault for allowing them to keep pushing and keep removing features. This game is the first I've seen to include MICRO TRANSACTIONS in a SINGLE PLAYER GAME, if this is allowed to continue, and doesn't actually fail as it SHOULD. Others will follow and this will become acceptable.

I hate every single one of you. You are the reason gaming is on life support.
GUY Jun 18, 2013 @ 5:37am
Again, even when people defend optional micro transactions I've yet to see someone say it's a good thing unless it's just cosmetic, nobody with a brain likes this sort of thing.
Zephyrduo Jun 18, 2013 @ 6:13am
Just wait till the devs release background packs for 5 dollars for this game. Sure it's "optional" but if you want that pretty rug and door for your "SINGLEPLAYER" game you'll have to pay out more cash.
wredniak2003 Jun 18, 2013 @ 6:26am
I never understood people who had a problem with devs giving more options to players. If you are lazy player or someone who wants all those shiny thing NOW! you can spend additional money on the game. It doesn't impact average player in any way.

And how is that different from any *orignal* costume for characters in any of the AAA tiltes dlc that we all see happening all the time. Or even costumes for the games like Dungeon Defenders? And maybe let's wait for developers to actually do that before we start complaining about that?
