Tactics?

Well where do I start? I have been a fan of Football Manager for many many years, playing the game in my teams when looking back now it was a basic but more depth than any other game and it was called Championship Manager. I'll leave the basic introduction there as I've had every single game since been intergrated into Football Manager.

On this one I seem to be lost. My team is Liverpool as I always start with the team i support on every game then experiment. Since i bought the game on the day of release I must have got to november and started again every single time as im about to as I type lol

What is really going on with the tactics in about 15 new starts iv tried different formations, going to forums because i think I'm doing something wrong and looking at other tactics to see how others are been so successful. I dont copy there tactics I use there knowledge and intergrate into my own style. Why are Liverpool so ♥♥♥♥? Why do the players not listen to anything I say. The bars on the formation familiarity are always full yet they seem to not know each other. I leave my reputation as automatic but i tried International Footballer to see if i get an more inspired response... No different! What am i really doing so wrong losiing at home 4-1 to Crystal Palace before going to the Eithad and losing 6-0. Is the game taking the emotional piss out of my life? I cant enjoy the game and it stems from the tactic tweaks they have changed.

Someone professional needs to give me an insight as to how my tactics dont work whatsoever. I tweet, Agressively speak, causiously speak, tweak, call meetings, beg the board for time, more tweaking, chop and change and more shouting at the laptop and nothing works. Its emotional.

Is it me? Is it the engine? (i dont want to believe its that), is it my tactics? is it my rep? is it my style of play i try to integrate?

I will create 20 chances per match get about 12 on target and get 1 goal. The opposition will get 4 chances depending on been at home or away get 2 on target and 2 goals lol

My answer is this game was made to take the piss out of me and I need further assistance than I have already scouted from forums for the first time in my FM history. Like the website name, i beg you SORT IT OUT!

I've tried so patiently with this game too, but it seems the tactics system really is screwed. I pretty much bet you play with a 4-2-3-1 formation? If so I'd try a different formation if I were you as it just doesn't seem to work at all.

I feel your pain though as I feel like I want to pull my hair everytime I play the game, so frustrating, no fun in it at all. Try to find yourself a successful diary of FM 2014, you won't because no one out there has made one.

I'm just hoping a patch is sorted very soon to solve many issues this game has ;)

there's no point loading some tactic which might exploit the bugs of current match engine. I'd rather see consistent match engine which actually works like tactics and techniques in general like- running towards space instead of opponent, strikers scoring, defenders defending etc.

It was my thread, I was the one that thought my tactic was great but after some great advice from the people on the tactics forum I made my team play the football I wanted to play, those guys at the tactic forum made me see the mistakes I was making.

I was not thinking enough when it came to how my team looked when they did not have the ball, what options were open to my players during the game.

I have played the game since 1997 and I, like many players thought I knew it all, I was and indeed many other players are WRONG!

I read it already. Your tactic in OP was fcud anyway so I would not draw any conclusions of that thread. You said it yourself that your tactics are inconsistent (win 4-0 then lose to same team 0-3) and that's my main complaint. Players may suddenly "stop playing" and I've tested it using "save spell" against some teams. Using exactly same tactic and team talks result can be anything from 4-0 to 0-1 with total control of the game (possesson 65 % and 11/30 shots), or your team is bullied the same 4-0 with either containing or overloading tactics.Only common line is that strikers don't score - goals come from set pieces or from AM's.

One thing is that the board may set instructions for how to play (like attacking possession football for Liverpool) but ME doesn't allow that because it sets restrictions how to score goals. I think the general assumption would that strikers score most of the goals but when that doesn't happen it's like throwing darts in dark when creating tactics.

I would be more than happy to read tactic discussions if I believed that would help with current match engine. But it doesn't like it didn't help exactly 12 months ago with FM13. Probably patch 3.1 will make this playable and I can continue REAL tactic discussions in different forums.

Well if you did read the tactics forum you will see I finshed 3rd in the league, I give due to the help I got and the things I already knew.

Lets be honest you are not enjoying the game and the update is not coming this weekend, now you could spend that time whining on this forum and not playing the game, or you could at least either try reading the tactics forum and giving that a go, better still you could actually make a thread on the tactics forum and letting some other guys give you advice.

You are saying your tactics are so good and it is the games fault, why not put that to the test and post your tactic in the forum like I did?

Why do you think I'm whining here? I hope that some of my whining reaches someone at SI or at least one of those so called testers. I don't believe in using ready-made tactics but I tried a couple of different sets before settling for non-symmetrical 4-1-3-1-1 with Balanced/Control mentality. But as you probably know it depends what players you have in your disposal. Or it should depend - it doesn't seem to make any difference whether I play Aspas or Suarez up-front.

As I said why not make a thread on the tactics forum?
You have nothing to lose, you are unhappy with the game and there will be no update until after the weekend, just give it a go!

Start a new thread and see where it goes, at the very worst you will still be frustrated, at the best you may actually enjoy the game again, just give it a go!

Thanks for the link but ive looked through quite a few forums and other guys custom fomations etc. This will be no different. What is successful for you will be successful for you only as you created the formula for your team and your players to understand. I realise that just sticking with semi basic tactic instructions (selecting 5 or 6 instructions) seems to work alot better for me and i am now doing quite well in my new start. Yes im using a 4-2-3-1 and 4-1-2-2-1. I find giving less instructions better for players to understand. Theres only one problem which has been mentioned... That is, between Suarez, Aspas n Sturridge they scored 6 goals up till January. I bought Diouf in desperation and hes scored more than them put together in 10 games. What kind of disrespect is this game dealing with in saying Sturridge and Suarez are poo finishers? Do they not watch the game in real life? Ive got Sturridge rotting away on the bench begging for the end of the season to come so i can sell, and Suarez playing as an left sided IF support because hes useless up front and if I put him on attack instead of support, he will dribble, dribble, dribble, cut inside, beat 4 men, get to a scoring position, turn around and give it to Enrique. Or dribble dribble dribble, cut inside and shoot from 40 yards hitting corner flag all too often lol

Basically the games weirdly made but im now doing ok so smiling again.

i started a save unemplyed and got the stockport job, i done amazign with them at 1st. got double promotion from skrill north up too league 2, and that was with a semi pro team, i was very suprised i managed it. so i went into the league 2 season, they turned me into a professional team which was good, and it went really well, half way through the season i was sitting nicely in the top half, and actually closing on playoffs. all of a sudden, this tactic i was using and the team had be using for 2 and a half seasons and was 100% familier with stopped working, and i basically lost every game in the 2nd half of the season. and then i changed teams too walsall and nothing worked there, now im at sheff utd and again what ever i try does not work, even this formation that got a semi pro skrill north team into the football league, any ideas anyone or how this has suddenly stopped working?? its like the game has just decided it doesnt want me to win anything and stoped everything from working. and what ever i do my team cant play football in the 2nd half now, they conced so many late on its silly

Well if i cant get the consistency i want with my liverpool team i doubt i can help you with sheff united. Really though i feel your pain because u can be enjoying the game for a period then blam! everything ♥♥♥♥♥ up without warning. Nothing works! you can change formation, have good team meetings it doesnt matter the. the AI doesnt want you to win so it wont let u believe me I know. Youve done well though only thing i can advise is to play with the tactics abit more. For me Less is More but recently it hasnt been working and feel like u

yea ive tied everything and nothing works. it honestly is really suspect to me tho!! i just went back onto the save and looked at the old stockport fixtures from when it started going wrong and it was all going well in 2015 but the 1st game i played in 2016 i lost, and then lost basically every game bar lik 4 games the rest of the season, it was like the game has something built in for when it turned to the next year suddlen the formations change and the ones thta worked befor dont work now. it really makes no sence to me. i have found a formation that has started to work for shefield united but the sudden change in tatics during that season has really put me off because it just makes the whole thing sound fixed to me!

You need to start out basic. each tactic now has a way of playing. For example 'control' means you wil play patient short slow football and 'attacking' means quick fast attacking football. when choosing your mentality it describes them all to you in depth. You need to choose how you want to play and then make tweaks to it gradually by watching the games. for example I play with scunthorpe. standard and balanced. I then over time after watching the games given certain instructions to the team and players to adapt the style of play. playing slowing tempo, playing out of defence and hassling opposition are just three examples. also be patient, it is a work in progress at first. also set up in a formation your back room staff adivses. they know better than you.

I noticed above complaints about seasons going off. this is very simple. the game works out if you play one style of football so it then can beat you, have back up tactics. counter away from home and control at home depending on who you play. change your formation slightly every now and then. if you normally play 442 play 441 or 451 but make sure this tactics have been trained so your team are fluid in them. playing a short game in winter is never good either so go to a more direct style if the weather isn't good. Football manager is very detailed so no rock should be unturned. you have to be patience and go into a hell of a lot of detail, if you dont your team will be poor.

finally seen that people have a lot of problems with shots to goal ratios. this is down to long range shots. find out who is been wasteful in your team and tell them not to shoot as often. instead they will pass and your players who are more capable in front of goal shall score.
