Simcity (2013) vs. Cities XL Platinum
Asides from the memory-leak issues (which PCgamingwiki assures me can be fixed), is Cities XL better than Simcity (2013) in terms of map size, flexability, and simulation?

The new Simcity has left me wanting, in that for every good idea introduced (upgradable building), three bad ones come with it (unreliable DRM; small maps; simulation breaks down after city gets big enough). People have been recommending Cities XL over it, and am wondering if people here would agree.

I have been playing cxl from the very right start and also own Sim City. I really prefer Cxl, because of the relatively huge map size and the way it loos like.

Yeah the memory leak and the monocore programming is certainly a problem, but if you have fun it doesn't bother you.

You can get cxl at the latest humblebundle ;)

Maps are huge in CXL, and the strategy is much deeper than SimCity, which is actually very shallow and broken past the first couple of hours. It's realistically a much better game. Buuut. It's performance is horrible because of the single core programming. The more your city grows, the worse the game will run. Obviously it gets worse the weaker your CPU is, but even on a top tier i7 you'll run into lower and lowr FPS. It actually turned me off the game once I got the point where my (relatively small city) got like 5 FPS. I barely covered a quarter of the largest map, and it became unplayable.

there ARE NO MEMORY LEAKS. that issue was fixed in a version that has not been sold in a long time. i think the low fps is a software/technology limitation. the EA/MAXIS version of this game Sim City: Societies/Sim City: Societies - Destinations, has the exact same issue. EA/MAXIS/TiltedMill was unable to solve the issue. their solution for thier users? keep you cities small. i dont't mean a quarter or half of the map. think even smaller. If there WERE memory leaks, Microsoft vista/7/8 's RADAR detector would detect the resource exhaustion and memory leaks and log it in the event viewer in these locations:

event viewer-->application and service logs-->Microsoft-->Windows-->

Resource-Exhaustion-Detector-->Operational

Resource-Exhaustion-Resolver-->Operational

Resource-Leak-Diagnostic-->Operational

and as for SimCity, agree only because of all the god forsaken DLC. which is why i waited until SimCity Complete came out. aside from the limitations on city size (which i think is done to avoid the issue that cities xl and sim city societies has) it is awesome. the most recent update lets me transfer my MP regions to SP. I even got a good deal on it too. 19.99 on sale

They both absolutely, positively, SUCK.
XL is the better of the two. Atleast you're not drowned in DRM like 2013, I won't even buy any EA games anymore, even NFS has turned to rubbish for 12 year olds.
EA and POOPYsoft (ubisoft) are OFF my list due to Origin and Uplay.

GO BACK TO SC4 AND STAY THERE DO NOT LEAVE. LIVE IT BREATH IT EAT IT LOVE IT.

SC4 is awesome, it shall never be succeeded. :)

if cities XL did have memory leaks you would see either RADAR_PRE_LEAK_WOW64 or RADAR_PRE_LEAK_32 error in your event viewer under applications....

here is an example of the error you would see taken from my computer from a program that actually did leak memory:

thanks for post. thanksfully with cities xxl out people are finally coming over to the fact that cities xl does not have memory leak issue but that framerate drops not cause of memory leakbut because the game logic takes longer to run as the size and complexity of the cities increase...

For my taste SimCity is more playable, cause it's friendlier to handle with and SimCity is smarter as Cities XL/XXL

Doctor, you are right on that one. I got platinum and never had any issues with memory leaks simply because there is none. It's just like you said, city gets bigger and more complex to model. Also the game keeps everything in the memory regarding graphics, hence more complex city, more zoom levels used leads to more memory used but it's not a leak. It has never crashed either and over one million population runs just fine.

It's the other reasons why i gave up on it. Very unfinished (lots of building descriptions are faulty with & signs etc.) and it got boring...
