NEVER buy Cities XL
It looks great, it could've been great, but it doesn't run properly because of bugs.
If you ever get to the point to have a nice village / small city, the game will stutter and become unplayable, at 4 FPS.

When you post about this on the official Cities XL forum, you get BANNED. That's how they react to feedback. They try to keep it silent that it doesn't run.

Don't buy this! Ever!

The game does tend to slow down when your cities get quite large... but "small city... at 4 FPS", I certainly have not encountered that. I don't regret buying it.

P.S.: I just noticed that you don't even own the game! What gives?!

(edited to add P.S.)

I do own the game, the 2010 version. And none of the bugs that I encountered have been fixed ( memory leaks ) in the newer version: It's just the same gaming engine with content updates. And I've got a very good gaming computer.

Just google "Cities XL memory leaks" and you find tons of hits.

If the 2010 version plays as you say, then some issues must have been tinkered with since then. Still some bugs for sure, but entirely playable I think.

Entirely playable is only true for the first 45 minutes at which point your city begins to grow and becomes very very (did I mention very?) laggy. It has been confirmed by many many sources.

This game had a ton of potential and I realy want to like it, but the buggy nature of the game leaves me disappointed every time.

It's like that crazy ex you have. You keep going back thinking that this time she has changed. Things will be different this time, but you end up heart-broken in the end.

That's been my experience too - it plays well for fhe first few minutes but it becomes progressively laggy and you have to exit to the "planet" level and reload your city. If you don't exit about every 30 to 40 minutes and press onward, it will eventually crash. Cynical indeed for Focus to continue selling this game without addressing this very serious problem, because if it wasn't for that one ridicously epic bug it would be a great city builder.

So this bug was not yet fixed? OK, i´ll keep my money, then...

Yeah, will skip this one too. Sad because I love city simulators and SimCity for me is a huge disappointment. :(

the cpu lag is because of a bug they have not fixed. There is a patch however that someone has made. the issue is its only using 1 core of your CPU rather than all. this patch will allow you to use all cores.
Kazoom May 22, 2013 @ 3:57am
Huge memory leaks and FPS-drops after playing for 30min. The ignorant developers of this game doesn't deserve your money at this moment.
BetonToni May 22, 2013 @ 4:16am
bought one CitiesXL and no more. this one i got last year was the last one ver, no MultiCoresupport and epic old graphic. .stupid frenchies make money with old crap only by placing a new name behind the old one.
la_nague May 22, 2013 @ 4:32am
the game is buggy and all the new versions just add some stuff that you could add in one or two DLCs, they dont fix much of anything.

The game runs very badly and if you think a good PC will ignore performance problems, you are mistaken, the game WILL start to lag and stutter on any PC.

Well thats a shame. I was on the fence of buying it on the midweek sale. Still on the fence but after reading the forums here I'm teetering on no buy.

It's NOT that they "have not fixed" it. It's that they CANNOT FIX IT. Focus FIRED ALL their developers and then declared bankruptcy. The "company" is now just a hollow shell, probably just 2-3 greedy accountants, sitting there doing nothing but collecting money from uninformed gamers. That's why Cities XL is ON "SALE SALE SALE!!" like 50 million times per year. Someone has to pay for the doughnuts & Porsches...
