Quake
Changing resolution in GLQuake
I don't know how to change the resolution to 1920x1080 in GLQuake. I know that you have to type -width or whatever but I don't know where to type it. Can someone help me?

-width and -height options on the command line when you start Quake. Ideally you'd also take care of some other things like your HUD size/shape and FOV... see the "Widescreen" section of this guide:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=120426294

Also see the first few sections about the config file, console, and command line if you're not familiar with that stuff.

If you're using the version of GLQuake that comes with Steam, it's kind of old/crashy (as the guide describes). Version 0.98 is available in various places like here: http://www.quaketerminus.com/nqexes/glquake098alpha.zip (throw away the opengl32.dll file from that and just use glquake.exe) ... or you could get a modern Quake engine like QuakeSpasm and much of this stuff would be easier.

Edit: here's a quick and dirty recommendation if you want to use GLQuake 0.98. Try this set of command-line options for glquake.exe:

-width 1920 -height 1280 -conwidth 864 -conheight 486 +fov 106

(If you use the GLQuake 0.95 that comes from Steam, only width/height work, the rest of that stuff for HUD and FOV will not work.)

If you'de like to try multiplayer, visit www.quakeworld.nu

Don't forget to also add -bpp 32 along the width and height parameters to enable 32bit colors instead of the default 16bit.

the -width -height commandlines seem to crash my glquake... odd... -bpp works fine tho. ;s
the low resolution brings back memories anyway. :)

If you feel like experimenting some time, try version 0.98 linked above.
I keep getting "Unknown command "-width"
Popped into this thread with the same issue, doesn't work. I remember Quake as being one of the better fps out there, but it's pretty stupid that flat out the instructions for the command line simply do not work.

its ".\quake.exe" -width 1024 -height 768 -bpp 32
Guys it won't work if the resolutions are not showed in video options. The max you can in widescreen (16:9) is -width 1366 -height 768 -bpp 32

Yada yada Quake Owner's Manual ...
Hi Johnny Law, thank you so much for your Quake guide. It helped me to circumnavigate most obstacles. One thing I'm still stuck with is a strange flickering in the HUD. I often see two images flickering back and forth, for example when 56 ammo changes to 55, I see 5 and 6 flickering back and forth. Or the whole HUD bar flickering when I had just displayed the game menu. Using GLQuake 0.98.

Then you must have an older GLQuake version. 0.98 supports huge screen resolutions above the one you named.

nope, doesn't work. just says unknown command ".\quake.exe"

also tried just \quake.exe and quake.exe
