Dude, this game came out in 1996. Pretty much any computer can run it.

This game requires 3D glasses - so that you can get stabbed in the eyes by the jagged polygons.

You may need to install a source port, as recent NVidia cards have really bad support for old OpenGL/D3D system calls. There are patches especially made for the Steam version that installs a source port (I think it's EZQuake) and adds the game's fantastic soundtrack, which for some reason is missing in the version they're selling here otherwise. With a source port you'll be able to play the game on anything, but the retail WinQuake release they're selling here may not work directly off the shelf.

Dude is just trying to show off his rig. Your hardware, no problem. But software, maybe not.

Actually, if you cranked up Darkplaces / Tenabrea mod for quake 1 your FPS would go down to about 10. aslong as you set all the graphic settings to highest (the shadows, lighting, bloom, HDR etc these mods add are amazing and really take your system DOWN).

I ahve the same rig as you except I went with the AMD 8 Core CPU; (MSI SLI 680 GTX's) but in all seriousness with the right mods it brings our systems down; me and you won't get 10 FPS, it will be playable but don't expect it to fly if you add the mods. haha. Remember Quake code is still in the current source engine.

I remember playing this when it came out, and the nail gun would bring my system to its knees... not only mine, either, but the whole server. We called it the lag gun... fastest way to get cussed out in multiplayer, lol.

Was that on my 486 DX2 66 mhz, or my Pentium? Can't remember....

Old gamer is old. :/

Yeah, the nailguns, rocket launchers and grenade launchers were non-hitscan weapons (unlike the shotguns and lightning gun, where the impact area was calculated with line of sight rather than physically modeled bullets), so the positions of the projectiles had to be communicated with the server and all the players, there probably never were enough rockets and grenades in use to cause issues, but I can see transmitting the position of 20-30 nailgun bullets causing some severe issues on a 28.8k modem line. You probably weren't playing it on a 486dx2, I had one of those and Quake wouldn't run well at all on that, with or without the nailgun. The minimum requirements was a Pentium 60 as far as I can remember.
