Quake
Quake. Greatest FPS of All Time. Even today.
I remember the first time I met Quake. Me and my brother were playing it at my dad's work, it was just the demo but. This was back when I didn't know games could be 3D. Back when i thought about making games.
I remember how awesome this game was. I was already very familiar with ID Software, the inventors of the FPS, ( a shame they've failed to keep up with today. ) Wolfenstien was my first real game, and my cousins introduced me to doom.

Many years have past and when i finally got steam Quake was one of the first games I set out to by.

Now I, like any other 90s kid loved goldeneye. But to me that game is nothing in comparison. The ugly models, the fog, OMG THE FOG. and well, yes it was a great game of it's time, but it shows it's age.

Now they always say nostalgia blinds us. But even now, so many years later. No FPS trully gives me as much joy as Quake. Sure the graphics are considered 'ugly' by todays standards. this was made at the beginning of 3D models.

But Quake is so amazing, cause it is everything you need and nothing you don't.

You have all the basic movement including jump. You have a good selection of weapons, hidden power ups, secrets, and health packs where you need them. To me, Quake is everything you need and nothing you don't.
The atmosphere is great, and even if I've never heard the music, it pulls me in and gives me the simple joe of blasting away at hellspawn. oh, and NO FOG!!!

Sadly the other Quakes weren't as good. 2 and 4 had a totally different stoyline that, just wasn't enough to pull me in and 3 was a lame unreal tournament knock off, (unless it came first) and well, i could never enjoy unreal tournament.

For me, Quake is pure simple fun. Simply that.

Lets be honest though, Goldeneye and Quake are pretty much the best of the best shooters in history, They are even, and they are just the best. As for Goldeneye fog, it was made like that to make it feel more realistic. As for Quake went beyond unrealistic, but its still amazing game by all means. But if you really wanna put Goldeneye and Quake in this, You might wanna consider this then. Goldeneye 007 was on Nintendo 64, So it had limitation vs Quake on the dos system. And including console wise Goldeneye 007 takes the cake completely. As for Quake, Quake was also ported to console and it was the worse controls you could ever use. Quake was more for PC then any ports it had. Plus Quake has a complex control system that the N64 or any other controls even in this generation could handle with out a bunch of different settings and fix ups. So in simple terms Goldeneye takes the cake for console. As for Quake takes the cake for PC. That how you should really think of it that way.
You do make a very vaild point. I had quake for n64 at one point and honestly i dont remember how i felt about the controls. it's mostly in my laters years that I look back with nostalgia, and then get a big grin cause the game is still amazingly fun despite it's age.

i think my points that I make are purely opinion, cause I like quake a lot more then goldeneye.
It was my first game, that I ever played. Lol My dad would say the blood was red paint
My first game was wolfenstien if I remember right. got stuck in a corner and shot to death. fun times.

That isn't right. Doom and wolfenstien are one thing. they're old graphic. but games with proper gore should not be played by young children.

children these days are too desensitized. it's sad.
I like your profile pic, also i'm not all blood gore and violence. I play very in depth JRPG's and
RPG's like Morrowind, oblivion, not skyrim, baldurs gate, planescape torment, wasteland, and every fallout.
and terraria, ftl, super meatboy, dont starve, king arthurs gold, G mod, and a few others I probally forgot about for the indies
and not to mention, that music genius Trent Reznor not only did the game's soundtrack (which is ♥♥♥♥♥♥' awesome), but also did the player ambience and other sound development

good games there.
I never knew there was quake music. i was told you just pop in a Nine Inch Nails music CD while you play it and each song matches up with a level.

the entire Quake soundtrack can be looked up on YouTube for everyone to find
Quake and Blood got me into gaming when I was 12. I used to draw the Quake symbol all over my school desks.

Btw the Quake Ultimate patch will give you the soundtrack or you can do it yourself.
