Quake

Source ports questions!
Actually I'm using the Darkplaces, with Methods of Destruction and the Epsilon!

I'd like to know if any of you have tried FitzQuake and/or JoeQuake, and if you can tell me what they are about, what they aim to, and how they are.

Also, I've played my first run ever with the darkplaces and NIN soundtrack, with lowest settings except the resolution. I've heard that FitzQuake has got Vanilla graphics but with full mouse-look support and resolution change, is that true?

And JoeQuake seems like a more colored Quake, to me!
Hope you know something about this! Thanks

Cool.
Anyway, I've made a research my own, seeing vids, meanwhile I wait for a reply of people who tried them here, and.. seems that the most true sourceport to the original is WinQuake.. really SAME graphics, and in the literal sense of the word.
But Fitz and Joe seems interesting anyway.
Yeah, but is WinQuake OpenGL 3D?

Yeeeeeemmmmmaybe?
I dunno.

I haven't read/seen too much about WinQuake, just a vanilla quake and winquake comparison, and a features stuff, and seems that WinQuake is vanilla with supports for widescreen and higher resolution. Dunno about the mouse-aim, though... if it hasn't got full mouse support, I'd rename it ''Chocolate Quake'' as the Chocolate Doom source port.
It would have mouselook, as the original Quake did, but I think back in those days you had to bind a key or button to it as it kind of look-springed... but I may be mistaken and it had full mouse look.

Yeah, I know that it had mouse-look, but I mean.. it wasn't like nowadays mouse-look.
You moved with the mouse too, and ♥♥♥♥ like that, and that's irritating, at least for me... too young probably.
And that's the reason that made me play my first run of this masterpiece with the dakplaces, in 1920x1200, with all details setted to the minimum, to keep it as true as possible.
Anyway, I still say ''I played Quake 1'', because darkplaces is the engine used for speedrun nowadays, and, anyway, GlQuake is a port too, so I guess it's... ''normal'' to play Quake with ports.

Anyway, I found ''FTE'' on QuakeOne Forum, and there's a graphical option called ''Vanilla'' that sets the game exactly as it was back in the days, but I didn't get if it's for QuakeWorld only, or for normal Quake too.
DarkPlaces has good graphical configuration templates that can mimic various game mode/styles. Including the original Quake.

so, as I played it, I can say I played Quake?
yes, of course, it's just a source port. Most of the source code would have been in the original Quake.

Download Quakespasm (based on FitzQuake) and use:

GL_NEAREST_MIPMAP_LINEAR (for beautiful, sharp software Quake look)

r_particles 2 (for square particles)

Set your desired framerate with host_maxfps

So it would have got the same graphics of the original but with mouselook?

Yes and your desired resolution.

You can read more about it here:
