Remember when Quake came about, nice interfaces like Steam were not around.

1. Google "Quake 1 Servers" and you will see many pages dedicated to servers and it will tell you how many people are currently on that server.

2. When you fiind a server, write down the address and port (assuming it isn't 26000 which is default. Example: quake.shmack.net : 26000).

3. Fire up Quake and select Multiplayer.

4. Input all that data into the obvious fields and assuming you have all the proper updates, pathces, pak files etc you will be playing. If not it will tell you possibly what you are missing and you will have to hunt those mods, pak files, etc down. There are more maps for Quake 1 then you can imagine, literally thousands and many many mods, engines etc. If you get stuck, join a forum and search for FAQs.
