Controller/ performance configurations?

I just got this game and I've been looking forward to it for a while, but I'm a bit annoyed by the lack of controller support or graphics options. Without anything spoilery, is there a good controller setup for this game? I'm guessing I won't have access to all the controls immediately. Also, this game seems to chug or run at a low framerate despite the fact that I'm using a 2GB dedicated graphics card that's been able to run more demanding games than this? Any suggestions on how to fix this?
