Articy:Draft 2 Question
I just saw the version 2 of A:D, but I was wondering, is there a chance that we can get an upgrade of our Articy Drafts to version 2 in steam? Or is it a separate purchase? :)

This has been much debated on this here forums. Try looking at the pinned discussions, perhaps, or some of the more oft-commented threads.

I asked about upgrade paths over on the Nevigo forums and got some good info from Kai Rossenkranz.

1. Nevigo is currently in negotiations with Valve to get version 2 on Steam. It's basically treated as a separate product (think Adobe CS5 vs. CS6), which is why it's not automatic or trated as an update to an existing product. For this reason, getting the latest major version out will probably always happen sooner through Nevigo than through Steam.

2. There will be an upgrade path to upgrade from 1 to 2. Through Nevigo the cost to upgrade a single-user license is 99 €. Presumably, this will be the same on Steam.

3. On Nevigo, everyone who purchased articy:draft 1 this year (that equals a grace period of ~4 months) gets a free upgrade to 2.x. Not sure if the same thing will apply for purchases through Steam. It might depend on how long it takes to get version 2 released through Steam.

Oh, and Kai just touched on this in another thread:

And, one last thing: You'll be able to upgrade to articy:draft 2 here on Steam once we've got the question answered with Valve if this has to be a separate app or we can just put it up as a DLC. In any case, you'll just pay the price difference of 99.

In a way, buying outside steam seems beneficial for programs like this in terms of upgrading. Thank you very much for the confirmation!

I do not disagree. I believe it was cheaper via Steam at one point, depending on what you wanted (it may still be). The main reason I want to purchase via Steam is that I want to use the program on both my desktop and laptop (with my project files saved on the web). I know I will be able to do this on Steam, but I'm not sure that I'll be able to install and use the non-Steam versions on multiple computers.

Thanks everyone for answering the question.

We're currently discussing with Valve if articy:draft 2 can be a DLC to the original SE version or if it has to be a separate app. We definitely want to put up articy:draft 2 on Steam and provide a convenient upgrade possibility for you (for 99$).

If you want to upgrade to 2.0 quickly, you can also contact sales@nevigo.com and provide your Steam profile and articy:draft license key. We can then temporarily shut down your steam license and give you a non-Steam 2.0 copy of articy:draft for the upgrade rate of 99€. Please note that once you've upgraded to 2.0 and worked on your existing SE projects with the new version, you won't be able to open them again in the 1.5 Steam version, since projects are being converted to a new file format.

Hope this helps,
-Kai

If we do that, and A:D2 comes out as DLC on Steam, would you disable our website copy, and then re-enable our Steam copy w/ the DLC?

Hi North!

I guess so. It depends on whether we'll be able to add the DLC to your Steam license without extra charge (since you'd have paid for it already outside Steam). So don't nail me down on it, we'll have to check that. :)

Alright, cool! Thanks, Kai! I'll stay tuned.

If we switch from the Steam licience to Nevigo's for 2.0, does the 99 dollars cover 2.0 only or does it cover 2.0 and the 2.1, 2.2, ...to the number you stop before the jump to 3.0?

Just wondering how that works?

Thanks

Loving the Articy:Draft!

me to. I want to have certainty if I pay 99$ to be able to get all 2.x updates for free through steam.
also, I'd rather pay $ then € since its more expensive.

I saw that you would offer free upgrade for 4months less buyers of 1.5; will it encompass us steam buyers too*?
Natai May 19, 2013 @ 10:17am
I believe both the Steam and Nevigo versions always include all updates for the current major version. So yes, presumably if you purchase 2.0 through either method, you will receive all 2.x updates until 3.0 comes out.

If I remember correctly, there was a post on Nevigo's site that implied major version upgrades would occur roughly every 12-18 months, though obviously that could vary quite a bit and depend on what features they want to include in each version.

If I thought I would get a a free upgrade to 2.0 if I buy 1.5 now, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but that just seems too good to hope for. Big difference in price.

I would buy it right away too, specially now that is 33% off for this week.

I am wondering about this as well. If I buy Articy:Draft 1.5 now in month of May 2013 via Steam, do I qualify for version 2 once its available? The current sale is tempting, but I'd rather have confirmation from developer that I will get version 2 at no extra cost.

The developer slips in the "We definitely want to put up articy:draft 2 on Steam and provide a convenient upgrade possibility for you (for 99$)".
