I've decided to delete my old "review" and make a more in-depth review instead.
So.. I've played the game for about 240 hours in-game and about 80 hours setting up group, customizing, trading, etc... the rest of my playtime is from AFK. I started playing the game back in April 2013 when the game was in closed beta and wasn't on Steam yet.
When I first started I thought the game really lacked in F2P with the very limited inventory space and damage you had when starting out. I decided to support the game by buying the lowest tier (15$?) founder pack and bought myself some slots and catalysts with the platinum. After that, I enjoyed playing for quite some time until I felt that the grind for mods and credits was too high - there were no void missions for example. I stopped playing for a while then... this was back in update 7.
I came back during update 10 again and enjoyed playing the game for quite a while, but lost interest when I didn't want to pay for extra platinum at its full price to unlock more slots or catalysts. It was hard for me to find players to complete missions with at this time. I started playing League instead.
Now I came back in update 14 and have enjoyed the game a lot despite some flaws. Here is what I think of the game currently:
Character and ship customization:
Character customization is great as usual and there are a bunch of new items to customize your character with, even though most of the stuff costs quite a bit of platinum and platinum is rather costy. Just recently they added bobbleheads to the game that you can place in your ship as decorations.. I can imagine them adding more items later on.
All of your weapons and warframe require catalysts or reactors to be useful at later levels. This is actually pretty frustrating because especially catalysts are very rarely on ALERT missions. Good if you can find one per month if you constantly look for it.
You don't get many inventory or warframe slots as a new player and this can mean that you get stuck with few weapons early on and in order to get a better one you have to discard one of them.
There are also a lot of new mods (especially with the recent update) that give more customization updates.
Very cool feature. You can find 4 variants of this pet and you can store them all in your ship. Aside from wanting some buffs to certain kubrow abilities/mods and losing less loyalty on death, no complaints from me.
They are great! Very good atmosphere in large maps and there are a lot of different tilesets.
With the addition of new directional attacks, kubrow attacks/finishers and combos for each melee weapon, it's even better than before. There are a lot of guns to choose from and although most of them are bad, there are some good ones that will keep you happy. On top of that there are a lot of warframes to choose from and each of them has 4 game changing abilities. I really think the combat in warframe is the best out of any action FPS game.
It is rather slow. Takes a long time to find someone to do the mission you want to do and there is a lot of RNG involved with crashing, host migrations, loot drop chance, etc. If you don't have any plat and have almost nothing to trade for it, you can be kind of screwed if you want to progress in ranks or the collecting of your weapons. It's hard to find Orokin Reactors and Orokin Catalysts which are vital for late-game missions.
Some of the resources are too uncommon, namely at least Neurodes. Certain items in the foundry can take too long to craft, for example: Formas, especially when they might at some point be the only thing keeping you playing.
You can have a citadel for your clan! This is such a great feature. You can research weapons in the rooms, challenge your friends in obstacle course, trade, customize and even play drums.
Another cool feature. Adds story to the game and puts players together, no complaints other than the first limbo theorem mission being too hard for a random group of fresh archwing owners.
There are too many of the planet missions. 50% of them should be removed. Being able to choose to play solo, in private, with friends or public is a nice feature. About the missions themselves, I just wish that some of the spawns were fixed in invasion missions. There are a variety of enemies to kill and this adds to the gameplay.
The mastery rank tests are a fun addition as well.
I don't like exclusive rewards. The events are fun, but the rewards should be available later on as well.
Every now and then a new Prime Access pack comes available to buy for an absurd price with the parts being very hard to find. Not a fan.
Nobody buys, everybody sells. Advertising restricted to once per 2 minutes. Guess what that makes it?
This is a recent update and it's awesome. You can fly in space with epic wings, gun and a sword/axe. It's a bit buggy though.
I hope they fix the crashes and enemies getting stuck/going off map... Now only if you could go underwater in the next updates.
Overall, it's a very enjoyable game that has slow progression and slowly rewarding gameplay for completionists and new players. It has some bugs that cause crashing every now and then.
