Clarification:

Only purchases made via the Steam Wallet are eligible to unlock trading card drops. If you made a purchase of any amount via Steam Wallet before today, you are grandfathered in as a “paying user” by Steam and you get 4 card drops. If you haven’t spent money via Steam Wallet prior to today then you are not currently eligible for a card drop.

Going forward, for every $9 that you spend on Warframe via Steam Wallet you will be eligible for one card drop.

This is a Steam initiative that we’re participating in and they are in complete control of how card drops are earned.

As a founder, I'm a bit disappointed that the only way to earn cards is by spending approximately 9 dollars to unlock a card drop. None of that founder money counts toward the Steam Trading Card system, sadly.

Exactly, we've already spent countless ammounts of money on the game why should we have to pay more to earn the cards?
Law Jun 26, 2013 @ 11:34am
me too im a tier 3 founder was disapointed with this
hektikfrog Jun 26, 2013 @ 11:34am

According to the details on the card page:

How can I earn more drops?
Card drops in free to play games are rewards for spending money in game.
You have not purchased anything in game after this card set was released.
(approximately $9.00 USD per card drop)

In reply to the comments so far, we're participating in this program and are abiding by Steam's systems for how Free to Play games fit into this program, see this section in the FAQ:

What about free to play games like Team Fortress 2 or Dota 2?
Free to play games drop game cards based on your in-game purchasing. For every $9 USD spent (approximate) since the start of the Steam Trading Card Beta, you will earn one card drop. This card will drop at some point as you play. If you have made in-game purchases in Dota 2 or Team Fortress 2 prior to the Steam Trading Card Beta, or if you owned Team Fortress 2 prior to the Free to Play update, you will have 4 or 5 additional card drops available.

If your founders program purchases aren't counting towards earned cards, let me know, I'll have to see what's going on!

I don't see any problem in the system as it does encourage making a purchase for a game that you were given for free. I wasn't expecting anything different, to be honest. Team Fortress 2 gives you a few card drops for having owned the game before it was free to play, and my biggest disappointment was that those that have already given money as an early adopter of Warframe aren't being rewarded for it, unless I'm missing something, or it was simply overlooked. I'm a GrandMaster Founder, and at this point I have more platinum than I know what to do with and won't have to buy more for a while, so it's sad if that means I won't be eligible to earn cards too. I see this in my account:

Card drops earned: 0
Card drops received: 0
You don't have any more drops remaining for Warframe.

does that only if you've bought a founder package and not the regular platinum (the ones that the daily award coupons are for)?

Hmmm did you make your purchase with your Steam Wallet?

No, I was not even aware that you could purchase founder packs with Steam Wallet.

I really hope steam changes their policy for free to play games with the trading cards. Currently you would have to spend $36 just to get the maximum amount of cards that can be obtained by playing the game, which is only half of the total. There are 8 cards for Warframe, so the max obtainable would be 4 without trading. I've never heard of trading cards that cost $9 each.
