I personally haven't tried Volt, but Excalibur is certainly a safe pick, as he has a nice balance of offense and defense. Not to mention, his 4th ability is currently one of the best in the game. I started off with Excal and I've had no regrets.

Excal currently has a lot of good abilities and all are easy to grasp and use effectively. Volt uses a fair bit of energy early on when you don't have the right mods but has incredible crowd control and utility nevertheless.

Depends what you want honestly, Excal is a solid DPS, while the others are more utility and CC.

Excal, the rework made him decent. Once you get some good mods, and some higher level weapons and companions, almost anything can be a room clearer. Volt is good for low level, but tops out at around jupiter. Mag scales well, but is squishy. Beyond those, I reccommend zephyr for CC or trinity for a healing tank.

And how about loki? Loki good? Or Excal/Volt better?

Nonsense. Volt may not kill enemies instantly with 1 button but doesn't mean he is absolete later on.

Like I said, anything can be made into a room clearer, but you need the proper mods for it (i.e. nightmare, rare, and corrupted mods) and you cannot get those starting out. which is why I reccommend excal over volt; volt is good, I know, I chose him for my first warframe, but until you have those hard to get mods, he just feels to squishy to be useful past jupiter

Loki is great but it requires some modding, what is more it is not a great starting frame due to learning curve involved in.

That is why Loki is not a starter anymore because originally it was a case of "git gud" or die.

Excal is a monster now and IMO is easily the best starter frame but I can't say he is "better" than loki. They are very differant frames and both really good.

EDIT: just to clarify: I consider Excal the best of the current starters because he is very forgiving, at least compared to the other two.

Volt is one of the three least usefull Warframes, one of Warframes three stooges, so to speak.
Complete garbage and he gets more in the way of a team than he is actually helping.

Excalibur on the other hand, after he got a pretty radical rework a few weeks back, is one of the strongest Warframes in the current game.

Excalibur might be the better choice. Easier to learn and unlike both Volt and Loki, doesn't have a 'Prime' version and probably won't be replaced anytime soon.

Personally, I'd take Loki though.

And the others? I'm guessing you mean Oberon for one of them but who is the other?

Could you explain how he is on the way? Information would be nice.

1st ability with 100% electric status chance to each enemy, chains a max 5 enemies.
2nd ability helps whole team to get from A to B faster and gives attack speed.
3rd ability blocks all damage and with high duration it can last 60 seconds. Bloody good in missions where you have to defend. In addition it gives 50% electric damage and crit damage is multiplied 200%.
4th ability at least stuns enemies if it won't kill them. Not much good to say about this one.

He surely is terrible frame. Lone wolf that can't help the team in anyway...

1st ability, can chain stun enemies, but the duration of the stun is shorter the higher the level of the enemy.
2nd ability, I see people using it to troll teammates more than anything, waiting until they have to move slow and carefully then using it.
3rd ability, frost's snowglobe now has no duration timer, as of U17, making it more useful, and volts shield can reflect some freindly projectiles, according to the wiki; I haven't tested it
4th ability, "Not much good to say about this one" you said it yourself

You say that because Grineer are the current strongest enemies and shock tickles them. Yeah, it's obsolete against Grineer, unless you can combo his shield with fire for some radiation. But the fact that a waframe isn't effective against a single group doesn't make it garbage. Volt is a great balance of support and offense with his speed boost, shield and stuns.
