Still not free to play?!
Square still wants $40 for the game AND a monthly subscription fee?? I love the game, and would gladly pay a one time fee for it, but Square needs to get with the times and drop the monthly fee.

I doubht they will drop the monthly fee. They don't need to because there are still a decent amount of dedicated fans. I kind of don't want it to go f2p tbh or else we will see pay2win pop up maybe. It is also the cheapest MMO that is out there currently that has a subscription fee. It is $11.95/month for 1 character. And 1 character can play every single job in the game. If you want to pay for more characters, that is up to you, but it is really not needed.

As much as I loved this game back in the day, I won't play it again until they drop the subscription fee. I refuse to give SE any more money for many reasons, including the way they've dropped the ball on recent Final Fantasy series entries and their refusal to refund bogus World Transfer fees charged to my card when my FFXI account was hacked. Kudos to their CS for getting my account back into my hands, but massive fail on not refunding charges made without my permission.

But...this game will never go F2P for one very simple reason: it's just about the only thing keeping SE solvent right now.

It's kind of sad when the latest entries of your flagship IP bomb so badly that subscription fees from a Playstation 2 era online game are largely responsible for keeping your business afloat.

if you look at it a lot of the games are P2P. even if theu say F2P they really arnt

What i mean is for example

Guildwars once you bought that game it was free to play online. But they came out with expansions what? every 6months? add that up for the what 15 add-ons it has?

Guildwars 2 (i really dont know i havnt played it want to but havnt got to it lol)

Perfect World This was a "true" F2P game but they had a cash shop. Where if you put the money in it your char was OPed and after time its gotten to where if you dont pay in the shop you dont get far in the game

As i stated for Perfect worls is the same for alot of games that say F2P there cash shop makes ppl so OPed that unless you do the same you rully cant do a lot in the game

So really if you look at it not meny games are F2P in a way. Also i dought Square will ever make this F2P as others have said and 14 will be P2P again aswell when it launches.

You really should have reported that as fraud and let your card issuer/bank deal with it. Too little, too late I'm sure, but seeing as it wasn't your fault, you could have easily disputed the unauthorized charges.

I never said I didn't do exactly that, mostly because it's beside the point. The point I was attempting to make is that I didn't want to do business any more with a company whose policy is "all charges, even fraudulent ones, are absolutely non-refundable." The rollback they did on my account restored the mule that had been moved by the hacker, but the company refused to refund the money even after taking back the service that the money had paid for.

And the bank/card issuer did nothing about it?
They really need to stop with the monthly fees. ok i look at is as this, i will pay ur monthly fee and i will pay for add-ons for ur game. I will also pay to have another character for this game. But when ur selling a 10+ year old game for $$$40 dollars on steam and on top of ur monthly fee,im just shaking my head like WTF square enix!....not about the fans but all about the $$MONEY$$.And how much would the diehards of this game like if the fee was lifted?!

Yeah, because dropping 2,000 subscriptions x 16 servers is an economically good decision for a company that's going bankrupt?

That is beside the point, since the bank refunding him has nothing to do with the fact that he was forced to go to them in the first place. What he is saying is that he will not deal with a company who's so incapable of flexibility and common sense that it refuses to refund a charge even after acknowledging its fraudulent nature. And frankly, I agree.

I sure as ♥♥♥♥ hope they have more than 32k players, cause thats barely 390k a month, or 4,6 millions a year, which is probably barely enough to keep the servers running...

That's private information that I don't share on public forums, and has no bearing on the commentary anyway. I've said enough to get my point across twice over, and I'm not going to bore everyone else by continuing to belabor it just because you missed it the first two times.

Edit: Thank you, Nikijh, for taking the time to understand my posts. The fact that you grokked what I'm saying, whether or not you agree, gives me hope for the internet. =)

Yeah lol at any given US afternoon the search function will typically states there are 1600-2000 players online. You can also factor in different playtimes, mules, dualboxes. Surely that's not accurate.

It's not that I didn't understand, I'm simply astounded that it seems nothing was done by the credit issuer when it was an obvious case of fraudulent activity. Do not flatter yourself - you're not nearly as clever as you think you are.
