Like many have already noted, the first map is lovingly crafted and polished and I enjoyed it quite a bit. But that was the first ~15 hours. After that the story suddenly becomes inane, instantly predictable cliche. To further rise the problem, the core gameplay is obsessive map sweeping. You HAVE TO inspect every pixel of the map, because plot items are either put in generic containers, identical to the other thousands, or in hidden mounds you have to detect.
It also has (or had when I last played it) a crippling problem with sequence breaking. I run too far ahead in the game on the later maps without finishing the plot on the first one, got an item identical to a plot item from the first map and used it in it's place... And got a cutscene with a voice but no character model, because I haven't met that character yet (which in itself is stupid) talking about stuff that hasn't happened, because I broke the sequence... I just played the game as normal, and did stuff that seemed logical until it turned out that the devs did not intend it and didn't plan for it. That's a crime in an open world game, because I haven't exploited bugs or anything.
Plus, it prides itself in "not holding your hand" yet still employs map markers at arbitrary and unnecessary moments. That makes it so much more irritating and confusing because for the first 10-15 hours the game makes an explicit point to explain directions rather that point them out. Then suddenly map markers. Again, it seems as if the devs just got tired of the effort and just wanted to puch you through. Unfortunately, it happens at the first fifth of the game.
I didn't finish the game. I got about 2/3 in, then just couldn't be bothered anymore. I did search for the ending, to see if there was something to regret missing... No, it was excatly, to the plot point, identical to what I had predicted for the game. And what I predicted was the most cliche, boring scenario possible.
Only buy for a price you feel is acceptible for 15 hours of gameplay and lack of closure.
