I purchased War for the Overworld Underlord Edition + Early Adopter Bonus (Early Access) on 22/08/2014.
I put off playing until this month as I wanted to support the development and wait for a more "polished" game.
Following is my review of my experience playing from start to finish (Avoiding spoilers and game play guides).
My system is:
AMD FX 9370 Eight-Core Processor @4.7GHz
32GB PC2200 RAM
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD
Western Digital Black 2TB
PowerColor R9 290 4GB GFX Card
Running x64 Windows 8.1 Enterprise
I have been building, customizing and using personal computers and consoles since the late 80s.
Starting the game I found loading times to be a bit long.
Once starting to play the experience was good.
Each level progression was as to be expected and offered a more robust enemy, however, each level up to and including level 11 took no more than two attempts to finish.
The hardest level from my experience was level 12. I took sometime to complete this level with at least five attempts being racked up.
The final level was very easy. In fact too easy. The only reason I took more than three attempts to complete it was due to a bug that stopped me. This bug persisted through game save and load and system restart forcing me to start the level over on two occasions.
The ending was disappointing. Leaving me, and others, to think the end cut scene was glitched. (I no longer believe this is the case).
Loading times are long, especially when launching the game I often had "Program not responding" dialogs pop up. After clicking wait for program to respond the game would start.
Lag, Lag and more Lag! The game lags a lot. Especially when big battles are happening.
Still buggy in parts. Even though the game is now considered a "Release" product.
AI can be very stupid. Good for us trying to beat it. No so good for over all game enjoyment.
Sometimes mid battle you are healing or zapping trying to protect your core and.... ARRRRR.... A cut scene as a new minion enters your dungeon with no way to skip the bloody thing.
As a fan of the Dungeon Keeper games and having spent many, many hours playing them this game does not disappoint and keeps to the spirit of the DK sieris.
Despite all of the "Bad" above the game is still well worth buying as I am sure with refinement via patches this will fix most of the issues.
I would recommend this game if you are a fan of the DK games or if you are new.
I score this game 7/10. (This is because I am a fan of the DK games and can over look the issues I had).
I hope the issues are patched and if/when they are the game will be much better.
