Brandon, w.r.t. your Tough Trader, can you speak to any difficulties you may have had toting a cavalry shield and fighting with PER 4? Seems to me like those penalties to accuracy would add up pretty darn quickly.
I do not know what you were/are trying to achieve, but whatever your intent was/is, I am calling you out on it right now!
I was waiting to buy this game after it was all polished and completed, but now with this sneaky , underhanded, deceptive video, I may have to buy it before it is even complete!
So sneaky...I guess you maxed out your "Salemanship" and "Great Gameplay" stats, huh?
Tricksters :).
Great videos.
I don't think low perception hurts melee fighting much unless you are using a lot of aimed attacks. I certainly didn't notice any problems.
Honestly I haven't used axe much in more recent versions (since the old combat demo), perhaps I should try it out on my next strength character.
Yes, nets like all ranged weapons/items cannot be used on an enemy that is directly to your front, back, or sides. You can throw a net when you are diagonal or at least one space away. Also, since that video nets now cost 4 AP, but last an extra turn and have a slightly easier chance to hit your target. This will increase much more if you have high perception or throwing skill.
As far as what weapons and armor to choose: pick your method of defense first of all. If you go with dodge and have high dodge, then you can use a lighter armor as you will dodge many of the attacks. If you aren't dodging enough, you may need to get slightly heavier armor to protect when you get hit, but realize there is a penalty to your dodge chance if you do.
If you choose block, get a shield and wear medium to heavy armor (no penalty to block chance with heavier armor like there is with dodge). You will have higher DR and crit resistance, however your AP will be lowered based on the armor which gives you less attacks and movement per turn.
If your weapon skill is low and you are having trouble hitting your enemies, maybe pick a weapon with THC bonus. If you dodge a lot, maybe one with a counterattack bonus. If going up against heavily armored opponents, vs DR helps. Also, if your THC is low still and you have problems missing, use fast attacks and you can use a bigger weapon (higher AP usage) and still do decent damage while using fast attacks.
