The game is boring, plain and simple. The platforming is mundane, the characters are disappointing, the premise would be a little more entertaining if the environment around it wasn't so uninspired. The game itself gets bored and ends not half an hour in (it should be dangerously telling when there is an achievement for finishing the game in TWELVE MINUTES.)
But perhaps the worst thing about this game is the humour. It's so infuriatingly pleased with itself that I found myself looking for a DLC that would remove all of the words from the game, and also reach through the Internet and backhand the writer for actually trying to sell the hackneyed tripe I kept being forced to read. I came to dread every new line of dialogue with the insipid NPCs, mashing the "Get Through This Stupid Conversation" button in the hopes that it would turn out to be story related and I could move forward. And then, of course, I'd hit it one too many times, and the conversation would start over again. Argh.
The game, at one point, has a character that speaks entirely in old, unfunny memes. One of the "DLC packs" you are allowed to "buy" kills this character, and doing so is supposed to be some mixture of funny and cathartic. Then, the end boss casually tosses out that tired old Dark Knight Rises
"you merely adopted the whatever, I was born in it" meme.
It acknowledges that referential humour is not funny, AND THEN KEEPS DOING IT ANYWAY.
Music is alright though.
