sourceports AND keeping DOSbox

I want to have a sourceport but I don't want to loose the DOSbox with the original doom 2 experience

what should I do?

if you download and use a source port, it won't affect the steam version of doom 2 (dosbox), so you can download one from the internet (each one give some advantages and disadvantage) all of them are free so feel free to try them

Im using zDOOM, and its feel is fantastic with tons of custimization options if you do/don't want different "features". its really easy to use too, i just added the .exe shortcut to steam, and use it and when opened it shows all your Steam DOOM WADs. it also mantains settings for all DOOMs, so you dont need to redo em all for Classic Complete. Really the only downside for me is it doesn't keep track of my DOOM times played on steam.

Chocolate Doom is about as close to DOS as you can get(with the exception of DOSBox, of course), and it's pretty user-friendly. Give it a flick.

When you change the source port exe to dosbox.exe keep the original in a folder in there and swap when you like.

Swapping this one file is all that is needed.

You can actually fix this! Copy the Zdoom files, exe included to your Doom directory in steam (where the Doom.wad file is stored. Delete the dosbox exe. rename zdoom.exe to dosbox.exe (If you ever want to restore it, simply redownload it from steam. So simple) This way, you can use Doom with Zdoom, through steam, and still have your time logged!
