Money would have to be spent. The extra sales from adding a workshop would not cover the costs. We would need a re-release like Duke Nukem to drive sales up.

Not to mention a re-release would fragment to doom community, since theres still an alive community with several source ports

Steam Workshop would go rudimental. There are ZDoom forum, Realm 667, Doomworld...

Because you can't just mod Doom, as it has severeal engine bugs. Not to mention if you exceed a linedef number, it will never load up.

If they put it on steam workshop, they'd need to develop their own source port which works with steam workshop. Then they can allow people to create servers and invite friends using ingame steam community...

I'm pretty sure a re-release would fix stuff like this (like the re-release of DN3D/SW did).
