What do you guys look for in custom WADs?
I would like to start making Doom WADs that people will enjoy.

I'm getting really good with Doom builder, I just need to learn a few things about slopes, upper levels, elevators and I believe that's it.

I would like to know the Do's and Do not's.

Also, does anyone recommend any sprite editors?

Making a map you would enjoy playing, independently if it was done by you, should be enough. Just don't mix too many textures of different colors, choose a theme and stick with it instead (it's doable, but it's not always good, unless you know how to make a good transition from one theme to another, like base/hell, forest/cavern, etc.).
