Doom II stuck at "preparing to launch"
Hello, Iv'e recently installd Doom II and played it for a couple hours, decided to install Brutal Doom mod for it, had alot of fun until earlier today where i tried to start the game, but steam was stuck at "Preparin to launch" and would not give any sign after 30 mins if waiting. So i tried going into the doom files themself and dragging the .exe to the Dosbox, and it started up fine, but with no overlay, no online indicator, and no online. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Try using a source port, zandronum is one of the best all around ones.

Click Open Folder, then copy the DOOM2.WAD file into it and rename the DOOM1.WAD and/or DOOM.WAD files to not have a .WAD file extension.

I'm the author of it btw, so if it breaks just message me. :-)

I use Zandronum, and the problem isn't playing doom, it's doing it with the steam overlay

I put the link in, it asked me to allow acess to the file, and nothing happened after that :/

It wont work for doom 2. It only works with the other classic Doom's for some reason.

I just did updates on my computer and that somehow fixed it, but thanks for your help!

If you got a source port to use the steam overlay for Doom 2, please share how?

Doom Hell on Earth did an update and deleted all files. Uninstalled and reinstalled no files.

Are they patching the game?

I just tested it. GZDoom will now launch through Steam. The overlay was not working though. More testing when I get home.

So what did the update do? Just some support for Source Ports?

DOSBox update and Windows 8 fixes I think.
