Getting HD Texture Pack to Work, HUD and Joystiq Questions
Just got the old school Doom package today.

Running gzdoom source and Brutal Doom mod.

Easy enough to set that up: renamed gzdoom.exe to dosbox.exe

renamed Doom2.bat and Doom2 + mouse.bat to .\base\dosbox -conf -fullscreen -file brutal19.pk3

So I got Brutal Doom running with gzdoom. No problems there.

Question is I downloaded an HD texture pack. I dropped it in the base folder. It's another Pak file: zdoom-dhtp-20140616.pk3

So how do I go about getting this working?

I tried to add the file name under [Doom2.Autoload] in zdoom.ini. Doesn't work. In fact, this makes brutal doom not work either.

So that's my first question.

Second one is for XBox 360 controller. Is there any way to map the 'kick', 'reload', and 'taunt' buttons to the controller? I tried using XPadder but it doesn't work.

Third question is HUD related. Seen some vids where the HUD is minimal... no bottom bar at all, just player face, ammo and health. I like that look. How do I get it? I've tried everything in the options but haven't succeeded yet.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Did you have "Path=" in the file path before your mods? It should look like this: "Path=.\brutalv019.pk3" or "Path=C:\Username\<location of>\<your sourceport>\brutalv019.pk3" when you put it under the [Doom.Autoload] section of ZDoom-based sourceports (minus the quotation marks), and you need to do this for each individual mod. Either that or create a "skins" folder and dump your mods in there, whichever works for you.

Onto the controller issue, you don't need XPadder or similar programs if you're using ZDoom or GZDoom. Go to Options, Joystick Options, then toggle "Enable Controller Support" on and you should see an option to configure the joysticks of your plugged controller(s), then go to Customize Controls to set up your controller's control scheme.

As for the HUD, I think you're refering to this:
