For some reason when I launch DOOM II, it freezes on the menu screen. Can somebody help me out please?

There are guides on the Ultimate Doom forums to fix this issue. It's the same for both.

After it loads shareware Doom just quit it and copy the DOOM2.WAD file to the PrBoom folder.
- I've even added an 'Open Folder...' button to make it easy.

DOOM2.WAD is in the 'base' folder inside your Steam folder.
Usually located at:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Doom 2\base"

do i need to remove the DOOM1.WAD file? also if i use the shareware to launch is there a way for me to mod it with stuff like brutal doom? sorry i just got it today and im trying to figure ♥♥♥♥ out

Literally no reason to use shareware if you own ultimate doom.

Brutal doom requires either gzdoom or zandronum to run (google them, they are source porots which are heavily modified engines
