I don't know which DOOM 2 to start with.
Should I start with DOOM 2, master levels or Final DOOM?

Theres no sequential order, and theres no "plot" beyond a couple bits of text. Any order in theory, but I would start with doom 2 because its slightly easier than the others imo. Plutonia is the hardest, again imo, but make sure you use a source port like zandronum, it makes life much easier. And, may wanna check out brutal doom

I'm not using any source ports bro, going to play the original on Nightmare. Just finished The Ultimate Doom.

Alright then, but source ports allow a huge amount of customization, as much or as little as you want. I don't think there are any upsides to using dosbox these days, whatsoever, you can tweak zandronum to run like dosbox if you want anyway

Start with Ultimate Doom if you have it and then Doom 2 then masters levels. And finally Final Doom. By the way Final Doom is twice as hard than Doom 2. But same monsters.

Follow Demon Killer's recommendation. He is spot on

Final Doom is pretty insane, especially Plutionia. If you get started with Final Doom, I'd do TNT Evilution first. Its hard, but a lot more merciful than Plutonia IMO.

exactly. I've just installed the latest ZDoom source port (version 2.7.1), and I like how they included the ability to customize DoomGuy to crouch-down and jump, as well as an improved mouselook (making it easier to kill enemies hidden in high areas)

Do you watch Doom speedruns? www.twitch.tv/kingdime - so entertaining. great commentary, especially when other runners do co-commentary. this is the reason i want to buy these games now. they run plutonia, mostly. i think it's their favourite, even for non-speedruns. they would say plutonia is a game to challenge yourself and take your skills to the next level. they make fun of tnt evilution about as much as they praise it, (well, maybe they fun of it a bit more). he also has a list of recommended, free, community-made wads on his channel. they also said that the wads on master levels are not that good. in other words, you should probably just play the more awesome, recently-made community wads before those. and there are a lot of those. i can't wait for these to go on sale again.

except for the map "Mount Pain" (aka "Mount-Go-♥♥♥♥-Yourself"), which is just downright brutal and unfair

Believe me, there's no going back after using a source port like Zandronum, especially with added functionality like mouselook which greatly improves the controls. In addition, there are mods like the fantastic Brutal Doom which completely rethinks the games combat, and features modes alot harder than Nightmare.

But if you're interested in a purist experience, don't use an emulator like DOSBox which is too slow. Instead Chocolate Doom is the way to go. It offers a complete recreation of the original games as they were in 93-95, even going as far to recreate bugs and maintain compatibility with demo runs. Heck it can even run ORIGWAD (the original PWAD and thus one of the oldest mods ever) with ease.
