But to summarize:
1) Get a sourceport (I recommend a zDoom variant unless you want multiplayer).

2) Unpack the files to a destination, e.g. C:\gzDoom
3) Rename the "gzdoom" executable to "dosbox" and then overwrite the "dosbox" file that is in your Steam/Steamapps/Common/[doom version]/base folder with the new one.

Once you have done this, you can run Doom from Steam with the sourceport, a selection window should appear (meaning you can e.g. launch Ultimate Doom with a sourceported Doom 2) - mind you that this will mean you only get hours recorded in the Doom game you launched with.
