Do NOT buy this
Look, I have Doom 3 BFG edition, and have played a ton of Doom 1 and Doom 2 that comes with that. More than Doom 3, put it that way. Been through both at least twice on Steam. They are great. This however is NOT great. The engine on this Steam version is completely different, and as a result, the graphics are terrible, much worse than Doom and Doom2. Very pixelated indeed. I know it's not the original game's fault as I have it on various consoles and it looks great.

Moreover, you get a weird forward movement whenever you strafe. It's only a tiny amount but it was enough to annoy the hell out of me.

Avoid.

just your opinion
they play great and there are tons of options that would blow you mind, like doomsday engine ,gzdoom, zdoom , zandronium
even with dosbox, that comes for the game, you can apply scalers that improve things a lot
hell, with some bosbox svns you can even apply shaders

in conclusion, it's just you, not the games

The game should be playable out the box, and it isn't.

While that is definitely true, there are still people around who aren't thrown off by a little extra effort.

Can you play a 45 record on your Cd player?

So, someone find the doom BFG version better than the original version of the classic doom games... That's weird.

That was a terrible comparison.

The DOS (original) version of the game only ran at a 320x200 resolution, while the BFG edition upscales the game to 1080p so its naturally going to look better.

With minimal (say under 5 minutes), you can have final doom set up on the PC to look faaaar nicer than the BFG version ever could. It's just a matter of downloading a sourceport such as GZDoom or Doomsday. It's really not a big deal and no reason to avoid buying it on Steam.

I made a patch for the game, check it out http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=261672656

You may need it.

I will agree that this version is hard to play straight off of Steam. I ended up just using the wad files that came with this purchase in my sourceport of choice.

I have a problem that I'm stuck in the title screen in the out-of-the-box version.
With your patch the game doesn't even start :(

I can recommend Miskudes Patch to 100%. Works great. Game is superb playable now!

All of the doom games play well for me so far. I purchased all of of Steam and haven't needed any patches.

You should know a little bit about the Doom Titles before you post such. First of all, this is the same exact engine that Doom 2 uses. And to just be clear, Doom 1 runs on a more updated wolfenstein engine. Doom 2 runs on Doom 1 updated engine with an added shotgun. Final Doom uses the same exact engine as Doom 2 uses. Also the graphics might be a bit on the weird side because its being ran on an emulator called the DOS box. Reason why Doom looks better on consoles is because it is running on a different engine aka source port. Think of a source port like ZDoom, Zandronum or even Chocolate Doom and you get what I mean entirely.

So too the fixup issues for Doom 1, 2, Final Doom and Master Levels.

Here a text file that I'll copy right here for you to copy and paste directly into your Doom configuration file. Aka .CONF files. These will be found in you're main doom directory. Copy what I'll paste in here and paste it within you're Doom .CONF files. it should fix you're issues entirely. I'll post the configuration in a pastebin for you.

http://pastebin.com/dWQ7TGjK = Mouse config files. AKA "ULTIMATEM.CONF" When you see a file with an M at the end of it. That the mouse configuration.

http://pastebin.com/kffm3Wdj = This is a keyboard config files. AKA "ULTIMATE.CONF" If it does not end with an M, that means it does not support mouse.

Copy those to each file with a .CONF extention at the end of it and it will simply run the games faster and the graphics will look perfect for what it can get too.

Now for the vert mouse issue where if you move the mouse slightly upward it moves you. You can remove this simply by putting this file in you're doom's folders.

http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/?file=utils/misc/novert.zip = Download for NOVERT.COM.

And there you have it, this should fix doom entirely for you. If none of this works, you can simply use a source port then.

You get the original wads thats all what you need anyways. You can play with classic controls, you remember the time when you played it only with the keyboard? Id rather say dont buy the BFG version. Tottally destroys the original Doom 3 experience how it was ment.
