Horrible joystick support
So when I saw this game bing released for PC I was exited. As a flight-arcade enthousiast I just had to buy it. I regret it already. The joystick support is horrible. I own the HOTAS Warthog which is like the most expensive stick on the market. It sucks using it. For flight enthousiasts this game is a no go! This is a typical keyboard game for noobs.

Rudder and thrust are somehow binded to the same keys and can't be removed.
This whole console layout is hor-ri-ble.
It feels like flying a ripped paper airplane.

I just got the game and agree, although I did find a fix for my joystick (Saitek X52).

I used a program called JoyToKey that binds all the joystick controls to a keyboard key or mouse movement. It worked pretty good for me.

This game is not simulation game. And AC:AH control is not good to fly with joystick because of DFM mode. Try Xbox Controller or dualshock 3. It is much better.

You can still try use x360ce to convert DirectImput joysticks into X360 controllers. (I didn't tested it yet.)

Dont care. Joystick is for consoles.

Not a valid excuse. At all. It's irrelevant if whether ot not the game is trying to be accurate. The problem is that it's a lazy port and why should he have to go out and spend $50 on a new controller for this? No, stupid. Especially, when ok-ish Saitek cheapos are way less.

Great, I should have looked this up instead of assuming it would have decent joystick support. But come on, that isn't an unrealistic expectation in a flight game.

you can emulate the joystick as xbox 360 controller or you can use a program called xpadder which emulates the joystick buttons as keyboard and mouse :)

This is a console port ie.. XBOX and PS which primary control function is a joypad.
Common sense really mate although i do feel your pain and yeah you would expect joystick support in a flight game if it was PC first but its ported, the devs focused on the consoles which is a shame. Kinda like buying a racing game and finding out it has no wheel support.

Dead thread, dead game, and terrible apologetics lol.

This is the best solution here for now. During my past experiences in external-controller on PC's, i can say that this is the second best thing next to actual support from the game itself.

Joystick is certainly not console-exclusive. That's like saying the Source engine is for PC only.

Terrible analogy is terrible, but i digress.

Agreed, to an extent. Using the Xbox/dualshock controller does make this game a breeze, but simulation or not, i think there should be some sort of joystick support, am i right? Yes? No?

This is the kind of reply that i can agree with, but at the same time makes me want to slap whoever wrote it. No offense, i'm sure that you are a good person. But don't you think that getting a Hong Meiling-grade* controller instead of a genuine one is kind of, you know, "discouraging-high-quality-products-to-be-made-since-people-are-buying-cheap-copies"-ish? I don't know, it feels like that to me. But we all have different opinions on the economic chain.

*Original statement, do not steal.

Well, with all that said, i can say that this game is enjoyable on both keyboard and controller, since i'm not the kind of guy/girl/toaster/cat who enjoys extremely extreme immersion.
I love reality, so yeah..

Cheers, and please be gentle on the counter-arguments.
