You tried to make profit out of cross-trading and it failed. These kind of things are a common risk when you try to take advantage of Russian prices. You should know better by now, especially when it happened so many times.
I myself don't like the practice of region locking the copies but it's a necessary step to take when so many people abuse of the Russian store.
1. Trading gifts is an official part of Steam. You may trade with anyone you want, not just friends.
2. I traded for several copies of Ace Combat during sale so I could trade them for other things later.
3. Those copies were advertized and sold region-free. When I traded for them they had no region lock or any warning/disclaimer of their origin that would indicate I should not trade for them.
4. Later Namco added region lock to the store. All my *existing* copies of Ace Combat suddenly became for Russia only!
Where did I go wrong? What legal of moral boundary did I violate?
I gave something valuable for those copies. Now they are useless. Namco scammed me.
Blahblahblahblahblah.... they've removed GFWL and replaced with Steamworks, thus making it available again on Steam, as they couldn't sell a game which could not have been activated on GFWL... The RU restrictions are a result of a glitch in the conversion they've made, when modifying Steam regions (as the GFWL ones no longer apply), you whiner. Go contact support or someone who can actually help you with your first world problem...
They aren't useless, they can be used by Russians.
I also have Ace Combat: AH gift that suddenly changed its region from the RoW copy to the locked Russian version.
Initially, I thought that this is just a temporal issue that happened due to the GfWL infrastructure removal. Yes, I was naive, I'm aware of that fact.
Later I've written a message to the Steam Suport, but they answered that: "Steam Support cannot assist you in bypassing regional content or language restrictions." Alright, I expected that. Not so naive this time.
So afterwards, as you may guess, I've contacted with the Namco Support (via e-mail address customerserviceUK(at)bandainamcogames.eu). Well, at least I tried because they didn't bother to answer (only an automatic reply).
Has anyone successfully contacted Namco Support?
Frankly, I don't have a problem with regional lockout systems as long as they're clearly labeled. Steam shouldn't allow publishers to change a region policy at will, especially if it makes the game impossible to play for people who acquired it earlier.
