Mouse Control Fans... Rejoice!
You have received what you want most in the game. The latest update has added in full mouse controls.

Personally I like the game the way it was designed but making it more accessible to a wider audience is a good thing in my book.

Enjoy!

And this goes to show how awesome Chris and all of Arcen are. I also really like the default controls, but if this brings a wider audience to AVWW2, then that's a good thing!

I just ran a few tiles with this setup.

If you enable mouse aim I recommend increasing combat difficulty by at least 2 steps or it's going to feel easy as heck.

been tracking this awhile. i'm one such person who honestly cant use anything BUT KB/Mouse to save my life. much as i liked metroid, i never liked the controls of it, and could never get anywhere with them all that well. Plus i lack a controller, and sidescrollers like this without KB/Mouse i've seen were never fun to play.

i LOVED the controls of the first, and reading a lack of them was gonna skip this, but with this news its installing presently ^^ i don't care about challenge in any way. i care about 'fun to play', which for me is in no way at all connected to difficulty.

Cookies for the devs for puttin it back in!

I hope it works out well.

I will say though, the biggest thing I noticed after running a few tiles with mouse aim is that a lot of spells other than the straight projectiles aren't very useful anymore and a lot of the enemies become ineffective.
Basically it means you spend most of the time using only one spell and most of the enemies don't feel different anymore because they get killed a lot faster and can't do as much.

Personally, it feels a bit like how AVWW 1 felt back early on when almost all of the enemies were bats and espers blobs, and it felt that way all the way through the few tiles I played with mouse-aim.

If you're OK with that then it should work out fine, but it was noticable enough that I think it's worth mentioning.

I'd really recommend NOT using mouse control unless you're really, really horrified by the current scheme.

Yes. Let's remember that this game was never designed with mouse control in mind. If you have a joypad, use that! If you don't, and struggle with the keyboard setup, up the difficulty a notch and then have at it.

Yeah, I feel overpowered using mouse aim and feel extra bad since that's now how it was intended to be played. It's like being able to aim your fireballs in Mario as others have said it would break things regardless even if I'm a bit bitter enemies/AI wasn't built around battling mouse/keyboard users in mind primarily.

i had to bind alot of controls to make the mouse to work.

i feel overpowered when i play too

Well, it's not exactly going to be a supported feature. It's been added in because so many people just flat out demanded it. It wasn't put in because it would make the game better.

very true

There was simply too much of an outcry on here for the developer to ignore -- at least for a developer like Arcen that actually listens to its customers. Some people for whatever reason just couldn't get used to the keyboard-only controls, joypad controls are great. It's a shame that the developer has had to compromise their artistic vision a little, but commercially adding mouse control was probably a good decision. If you have a joypad or don't mind old-school keyboard controls then do play using one of those methods, though. Mouse control is really for those without joypads who absolutely detest keyboard-only control. Definitely up the difficulty, though, the default will be a cakewalk using mouse control.

Good. Now they need to adapt the behaviors of enemies to mouse support and we will have a true game for PC gamers.
But, for me, this game still lack of platforming gameplay of first AVWW1 and big maps/scounting.

I'm not going to say never but... yeah, I really don't see this happening. That would be a HUGE overhaul to the game, and we just don't have the resources for that big of an overhaul right now.

I will be reinstalling the game because of this, and giving it another chance.

You may not like it tigersfan, but this was an absolutely necessary change, and I'm glad you saw that. Now I can judge the game based on its content, rather than the showstopper that was the controls.
