Beta review: What is the point?
I want to start by saying that the concept of AVWWs is genious and that I have been very receptive to the plot.
I bought the first one because of all the fancy things it promised. Actually I enjoyed it a bit somehow, even if any mates had join me on it(reducing greatly my time passed on it), the whole thing was new. I loved the gigantic map, and the feeling to be lost at first then understanding more and more, I loved the exploration, that methodical search for special rooms in buildings, etc... Having constant objectives and the constant search for optimal path was great.
AVWW2 is nothing like the first, it's a succession of small maps, very repetitive and unrewarding feeling. + the tactical aspect is nothing really tactical, you play against a computer, there is a better way, some decent and some that will make you loose, with no skill involved at all(just watch a guide on line and that's it you know what to do in tactical phases if you don't even want to use your brain)
In the end I find this second volume less stimulating than the first atm, even the big blunders of the first have not been resolved. The gameplay is horrible anyway you slice it, ofc games phases are less important than in the first one where you can grind for several hours in the same map, but what for? For that pseudo tactical flavourless map...
I think that even the idea behind AVWW1-2 universe is really strong and brings something new, the game suffers too much from overwhelming flaws that make both games pretty unplayables when these could have become references. Nowaday you see a lot of polished ♥♥♥♥♥♥ concepts(playable but flavourless), AVWW is the total oposite but hence it's unplayable, the game as no point.(or you have to tell yourself: ok I'll play the game for the concept even if I hate the feeling of playing it: it's crazy when you put it this way isn't it?)
If the game get sold and generate profits(from what I have seen in beta it may be hard sadly, I have nobody that comes into my mind that would enjoy 10mn of AVWW2 as it is now), I hope that anyone behind it with persevere and gives a great gameplay, design and more energy to its sequel, games designed to have long life span need that kind of qualities.
The gaming community would use a game like AVWW1-2 indeed, but a playable one.
note: I'm french so may have made critical mistakes in that wall of text. But even if I'm not really a fan of the whole AVWW I wanted to give support for the amazing whole concept, hoping the devs can get more money and use it well :).
