Slightly confused as to why arcen made this a sequel to 1 rather than giving it a new name
It seems so little is of any relation so it just seems to me like it would make more sense to give it a completely new name and such.

Not going to start hating on it or anything I only have it due to a bundle on indie royale I think it was but after playing a bit of the first I decided to try it to see what had changed since the first game and I was shocked when I saw it was more of a strategy game... and not exactly the kind I enjoy like AoE and such.

I can see how some people enjoy this sort of thing but I'm going to have to say I can't see too many people who loved the first getting much out of the second and vice versa

That is because this is what the first game was supposed to be like—not necessarily the control, but the general gameplay at the very least—and somewhere along the line they just lost it and made something else. Thus, the sequel being what the first one was planned to be even though it is not much in terms of a sequel.

I agree with the OP 100%, i said the same thing a good while ago.
This is not a sequel and for the sake of Arcen i hope this is NOT what it was supposed to be, because the first one is superior in every way.
Part 2 is a weird and simplistic console game that has almost nothing in common with the original.
I guess its a wild remix that attempts to please the players that didnt like the original.
i think it was never intended for the players that liked the original, thats why they gave it for free to the owners of the original.
In the end, if more players liked part 2, its a win for Arcen, and i wish them all the best, they are a great company that i have a lot of respect for.

Yep, I think they focused on what players hated about the first - they redid the graphics, added a long-term objective besides clearing continents, and expanded the strategic gameplay. I like both but somehow the first game is less infuriating in the sidescrolling combat.
