Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

Is BG:EE being taken off steam / if so - what happens to thoses of us who bought BG:EE
hey guys, i just recently saw that there is word that BG:EE has been taken down from beamdog and a few other sites... and steam might be taking it down of here...

as the title says if steam removes BG:EE from steam what happens to the BG:EE that we all payed for ?

(i personally dont want to "properly mod BG1" to make it like the enhaned edition)
im fine and happy with this copy, and im hoping i dont lose access to BG:EE :(

---------
has for issues why the games being taken down...
i've read it but i dont fully understand why its being removed ?
is it because of the lack of patches the steam version of BG:EE hasn't been getting ?
or what

You can read the official statement here: http://www.baldursgate.com

Atari has control over the distribution of the game, and they asked us to remove it from sale on Beamdog and the App Store. We aren't certain why they've elected to continue selling it through their own channels (such as Steam), but it doesn't look like it will be removed from sale.

As for what happens when a Steam game gets pulled, I don't think it will affect you if you've already purchased it, but you might want to shoot Steam's support an email just to be sure.
mm, just as your msg was sent i just finished reading the news report, subscribed for the news letter, read the bit about "people who bought it can still download and play the game" (which is great news...thank god),

i've also sent a email to steam support to ask them if BG:EE will be removed in the near/far future,

ill hit ya's up with the reply when i get it <heres fingers crossed to hoping steam users can still use it>

(edit)
oh and thanks for the reply :P

I am pretty sure that you can use games that are in your library despite them being pulled off the store later on. You can uninstall, reinstall, backup, check integrity, access forums and all that...just nobody will be able to purchase another copies/gifts of it here and most likely the game won't recieve any support from that point onwards on steam, which sucks.

Atari is selling the game here, so we as customers are in check, because developer is loosing income that way (since they can't sell it anymore themselves and proceedings are frozen during legal disputes) and they won't support the game with patch/content/sequel until it is resolved. Worst case scenario might be, that they will not release a patch for Steam users at all and will direct us to complain at Atari's doors. I can see why are people so angry with Atari recently, this just being another fine example how to screw a customer.
You'll be able to still download and play it on steam if it gets taken off. I have other games that no longer are sold but still are in my library.

Plus if you look at the above link to the baldurs gate site, they have a Q&A that says that users that bought their game through them can still download it...they just can't sell any more copies.

Also, they'll end up updating everyone's copy...after all they want to sell us BG2EE and eventually BG3...if things go well enough. The whole plan really was to sell BG1EE & BG2EE as a proof that enough people want a BG3 before they put time/money into it.

Considering how many people play the originals still, and how much it's been modded...i'm guessing there'd be a ton of interest in a BG3.
Here's hoping that BG3 does not turn out to be a console port suffering from consolitis. And for God's sake: No Dark Alliance style as well..
The moment I see a "gamepad support" somewhere among the features, I will know all went to hell during development and it would not be a Baldur's Gate game that we all love and care.
Well no more worries, Beam Dog has now resolved the legal issues with Atari and are selling the game again and aiming for their BGII:EE release!
lol trust the issue to be resolved before i get a reply from steam XD,

but all the same EXCELLENT!!!, cant wait for BGII:EE, and BGIII ^.^
is the patch out yet?
nope =/
not long since had a look at my BG:EE verison
its still v1.0.2014

the news tab for games shows that BG2:EE is set for november =/
you'd think they would do the "patch they promised us" first wouldn't ya ?

dont get me wrong im totally looking forward to BG2:EE and BG3,
but steams BG:EE's lack of patches puts a download on the hype for BG2:EE =/

but thinking about it, when the patch does come out,
i have a gut feeling, steam will be behide, not because of beamdog or anything
but just because steam seems to enjoy taking their sweet time doing anything

like the question i sent a steam ticket to them for -
the pull-issue got solved before steam even bothered to reply to the ticket,

and with Game Dev Tycoons recent release -
it was partically the 30th before it unlocked on steam,
even tho steam says ""29th"" =/

BUT HEY... you never know o.O things might change in the future :)

At least it shows where the priorities for Beamdog are. Spewing out a new release is surely more profitable than patching up/polishing the previous one. The optimistic part of me believed in the release of patch right after disputes were over. Since it didn't happen, it's obvious that patch was only used as argument point in their legal disputes. Bhaal knows whats the progress with it, but it is certain that they can't spare many people because of the work on BG2EE now. Release date of 15.11.13 is around the corner and it leaves me wondering, what will really become enhanced here (it says widescreen support, multiplayer tweaks, improved rendered, 30 new locations and 4new npcs with their quests, although 3 are the ones from BGEE). I just hope it won't end up like those "sinking ships", that kept spewing out as much of re-releases, new mini contents/dlcs in shortest span of time to milk out as much as possible before sinking and abandoning it for good. Remember we don't know the exact outcome of their legal battles, but will see in time.
yh, you make a good point
there was nothing wrong with BG2's story, so lets touch wood and pray to the gaming gods :P
that the additions that beamdog add wont cause it to do a titanic....

i hope it doesnt because im 100% looking forward to BG2:EE and BG3
...lets just hope my pc can handle it >.<.... had to get a graphics upgrade to start with because my "intel chipset" couldn't handle BG:EE :'(
lets hope the next ones dont MAKE me have to improve the processor/motherboard

JUST YET... im saving up for a new processor/motherboard....im just hoping i dont have to go nuts to having to get the pc upgrade first :'(
Well they promised a support for integrated intel HD chipsets in that coveted patch we are all waiting for. BG2EE will use same engine, most likely already updated with that intel support. It is not your old gpu couldn't handle BGEE, it was just not supported yet. I played old version of BG on pure work machine with 2D S3 card 2mb of ram (cpu was 200mhz Intel PRO server I think) and BG2 on 3Dfx either 6 or 8mb of ram, since it offered acceleration for spells/effects and that was amazing. It is not demanding game at all, just lacks immediate support for certain gpus. Not sure what will be the case with BG3, if any at all. I just wish for a patch now, succesful release of BG2EE with least possible amount of bugs (and maybe seamless playthrough from one game to another) and if they decide to make BG3, I just hope they won't butcher such cult saga (e.g. BG dark aliance games haven't recieved much praise). One thing is a re-release, remastering, updating of the old, another one is releasing new sequel that is to appeal to diehard fans, achieving comparable quality as the original titles. Quite big obligation I would say...but we will see.
trust me :P it was the built in chipset that couldn't handle it...
(well ok i sure the term loosly, but the game LAGGED so bad when i tryed to play it)
(hell the game lagged just as bad, with stardrive)
if memory serves it was the built-in chipset, ""Intel G41 chipset"" and the motherboards
"MSI G41M-P28 (MS-7592) (CPU 1)"

had to re-download speccy to find out what was in my pc,
but since upgrading my graphics to the "NVidia Geforce GT630
BG works like a charm <3

my proccessors a
Intel Pentium E6600 @ 3.06GHz 38 °C
Wolfdale 45nm Technolog
(Basically a duel-core)... and apartally when i looked on canyourunit.com
cant remember the game but it said i needed a duo-core as min
and this was weaker then that :S

as for my old-school BG's (the lot) they work no problems with the intel chipset,
atm i've got 4gb ram (gonna have to up that soon too, as a game i looked at recently needs 8gb of ram :( )

BG: dark alliance - thats it, thats the cheesy BG game...

ideally.... i hope to all hell, that ill be able to get the i5 or i7 processor, and least 8gm of ram just to be save, if i need to update my motherboard,,,and mostly have to do my power-suppy (currently a AC 230V, or least thats what the sticker says on the back of my tower) too... then thats gotta major set me back least half a year,...damn bills >..<
