Atari has control over the distribution of the game, and they asked us to remove it from sale on Beamdog and the App Store. We aren't certain why they've elected to continue selling it through their own channels (such as Steam), but it doesn't look like it will be removed from sale.
As for what happens when a Steam game gets pulled, I don't think it will affect you if you've already purchased it, but you might want to shoot Steam's support an email just to be sure.
i've also sent a email to steam support to ask them if BG:EE will be removed in the near/far future,
ill hit ya's up with the reply when i get it <heres fingers crossed to hoping steam users can still use it>
(edit)
oh and thanks for the reply :P
Atari is selling the game here, so we as customers are in check, because developer is loosing income that way (since they can't sell it anymore themselves and proceedings are frozen during legal disputes) and they won't support the game with patch/content/sequel until it is resolved. Worst case scenario might be, that they will not release a patch for Steam users at all and will direct us to complain at Atari's doors. I can see why are people so angry with Atari recently, this just being another fine example how to screw a customer.
Plus if you look at the above link to the baldurs gate site, they have a Q&A that says that users that bought their game through them can still download it...they just can't sell any more copies.
Also, they'll end up updating everyone's copy...after all they want to sell us BG2EE and eventually BG3...if things go well enough. The whole plan really was to sell BG1EE & BG2EE as a proof that enough people want a BG3 before they put time/money into it.
Considering how many people play the originals still, and how much it's been modded...i'm guessing there'd be a ton of interest in a BG3.
The moment I see a "gamepad support" somewhere among the features, I will know all went to hell during development and it would not be a Baldur's Gate game that we all love and care.
but all the same EXCELLENT!!!, cant wait for BGII:EE, and BGIII ^.^
not long since had a look at my BG:EE verison
its still v1.0.2014
the news tab for games shows that BG2:EE is set for november =/
you'd think they would do the "patch they promised us" first wouldn't ya ?
dont get me wrong im totally looking forward to BG2:EE and BG3,
but steams BG:EE's lack of patches puts a download on the hype for BG2:EE =/
but thinking about it, when the patch does come out,
i have a gut feeling, steam will be behide, not because of beamdog or anything
but just because steam seems to enjoy taking their sweet time doing anything
like the question i sent a steam ticket to them for -
the pull-issue got solved before steam even bothered to reply to the ticket,
and with Game Dev Tycoons recent release -
it was partically the 30th before it unlocked on steam,
even tho steam says ""29th"" =/
BUT HEY... you never know o.O things might change in the future :)
there was nothing wrong with BG2's story, so lets touch wood and pray to the gaming gods :P
that the additions that beamdog add wont cause it to do a titanic....
i hope it doesnt because im 100% looking forward to BG2:EE and BG3
...lets just hope my pc can handle it >.<.... had to get a graphics upgrade to start with because my "intel chipset" couldn't handle BG:EE :'(
lets hope the next ones dont MAKE me have to improve the processor/motherboard
JUST YET... im saving up for a new processor/motherboard....im just hoping i dont have to go nuts to having to get the pc upgrade first :'(
(well ok i sure the term loosly, but the game LAGGED so bad when i tryed to play it)
(hell the game lagged just as bad, with stardrive)
if memory serves it was the built-in chipset, ""Intel G41 chipset"" and the motherboards
"MSI G41M-P28 (MS-7592) (CPU 1)"
had to re-download speccy to find out what was in my pc,
but since upgrading my graphics to the "NVidia Geforce GT630
BG works like a charm <3
my proccessors a
Intel Pentium E6600 @ 3.06GHz 38 °C
Wolfdale 45nm Technolog
(Basically a duel-core)... and apartally when i looked on canyourunit.com
cant remember the game but it said i needed a duo-core as min
and this was weaker then that :S
as for my old-school BG's (the lot) they work no problems with the intel chipset,
atm i've got 4gb ram (gonna have to up that soon too, as a game i looked at recently needs 8gb of ram :( )
BG: dark alliance - thats it, thats the cheesy BG game...
ideally.... i hope to all hell, that ill be able to get the i5 or i7 processor, and least 8gm of ram just to be save, if i need to update my motherboard,,,and mostly have to do my power-suppy (currently a AC 230V, or least thats what the sticker says on the back of my tower) too... then thats gotta major set me back least half a year,...damn bills >..<
