Multiplayer Question

Is there anything special i need to do on this game to set up multiplayer or is it a simple host and join setup. Or will i need to get an outside program to run it or get an "official sever" thingy.

When I connect with my friends, if I am connecting to their server I just enter their IP and it connects no problem. As long as they have the ports open on the firewall that the ingame text box tells you about when you go into multiplayer. They can find out their external ip by going to google and typing "What's my IP". If you're connecting on the same local network, get the host PC to run CMD and type in IP config, use the iPv4 address. Outside programs are not needed.
