Baldur's Gate, or Diablo?
I'm someone who enjoys playing classic games I never got to expereince when I was young. It's awesome that these games are now being rereleased in HD and anyone can run them.

I'm asking whether people reccomend I try Baldur's Gate, or Diablo (1 or 2) from battle-net? They all look similar and I just know they're from the 90's. Also: what's the multiplayer like? Is it something that is fun to play with strangers, like many modern games, or is it best with a freind?

The may look similar, but they are two very different games.

Diablo is a more action oriented game that focuses a lot on "character builds" and loot drops. You have one character to control with a lot of clicking fast and killing swarms of bad dudes. Think Torchlight or Titan Quest if you have played these.

Baldur's Gate on the other hand is more of a story driven RPG with a party of characters. Combat is real time, but pausing is required to give orders in more of a tactical style. Almost a turn based real time if you will. The game has a slower pace and is quite challenging.

Both are classics and well worth the money though.

As far as multiplayer goes, I would say both are best played with friends. That said, Baldur's Gate would be VERY hard to play with random people.

Diablo 2 was one of my most favorite games of all time. Hack-n-slash RPG at its finest. To give you an idea, I've been very disappointed with gaming in general over the past decade...Diablo 3 was released and I was very excited. Playing Diablo 3 just made me want to go play Diablo 2 again...even with the dated graphics. They just don't make em like they used to. I don't understand why.

baulders much more diverse and you control a party where diablo tho enjoyable you are primarily on one massive dungeon the whole time and you just control you.

They are both fantastic games, i feel that Diablo 1 is great for solo play and i cannot play Diablo 2 with out, so many items that you miss out on if you don't. Baldurs gate imo requires more thinking and strategy and if you understand the rules of DnD it makes the game alot easier but don't get me wrong it is still challenging on the harder difficulty's. i think Baldurs gate is better on a whole mainly because if you finish Diablo (now that its outdated and full of bots) that's pretty much it but Baldurs gate i have finished time and time again and still playing :D

Diablo 2 is one of my favorite games of all time, but I have to say that Baldur's gate reaches an itch that Diablo can't reach (and vice versa). I also highly recommend the Eschalon series available here on steam.

Thanks for all the replies, guys :)
I am thinking of getting Diablo 3, if my computer will run it. (I know fans say D2 is still better, but I don't care about that). I might still get Baldur's Gate during the summer sales.
dont waste money on diablo 3. get torchlight 2 if you want a newer game. if you have never played the first 2 diablos or this baldurs gate game, you really should forget about D3 and grab d1, d2 and baldurs gate for about the same price total as that hunk of♥♥♥♥♥♥

@Terminal Sprit Disease A lot of veteran gamers complain about D3. I bought D3 having never had the experience of playing the original games and I love it! You shouldn't ruin the expereince for other people just because the new one isn't as good as your memories.
