My best advice in playing them successfully is to blitzkrieg through research buildings and tech ASAP and anything that boosts mana/round, then use summon spells to flesh out your initial, pathetically weak army (militia and spearman with no reinforcements for over 30 turns!) I came to know the shadow warg very intimately, and every city was built on essence tiles with mana boost on them to keep a heavy summons army. Sadly the Chaos Legion doesnt have "Binding" like like custom faction did, and I wish they had it since I love when those demons and elementals spawn from the shards. My custom faction relied almost entirely on those shard spawned demons and the Arcane Monolith spell to grab shards (for total lack of pioneers), and it worked!
