Win8 Issues

Ever since I updated to Win8, The Ultimate Doom takes quite a long time to start up during the init process in dosbox. And once it starts, I'm stuck on the splash screen with no sound and no input. Neither a keyboard press nor a mouse click gets me anywhere. Didn't have any problems with Win7.

Anyone else having these issues? Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm not using any mods. I enjoy the game "stock" without any extra features.

Try getting a sourceport such as zDoom or Skulltag. DOSbox is pretty awful, though if you want to stick with it you should look for their forums and ask around there.

Try Chocolate Doom, it is an attempt to replicate the original DOS game as closely as possible while still running on newer hardware and platforms. Even saves and mouse configurations can be transfered over from Classic DOS Doom (which the community refers to as "Vanilla Doom") to Chocolate Doom.

Thank you for the replys. I ended up with zDoom. It seemed to be still in development, and was the most flexible as far as options and features.

This sucks, the Doom games were like 3 bucks and I got super excited but I guess I'll just play the xbox versions. Ugh.

that's boring, when're you playing game, your status doesn't seem as "playing Doom".

Also having the same issue. If I'm buying a game on Steam, I expect it to work without jumping through hoops of getting doomsday, or chocolate doom, or anything else. Honestly, I'm just requesting a refund on this. I already have DOOM 3 BFG edition, and if I just need the WAD files to play in Chocolate, then I've already got it...

The original DOS version that this is does not work but source ports will. Doom was meant for keyboard and mouse!! http://steamcommunity.com/groups/odamex

This fixed the Windows 8 problem for me. I changed the line fulldouble=true to fulldouble=false in the files called ultimate.conf and ultimatem.conf (I'm not sure which one Steam uses) which are located in the folder call base in the Ultimate DOOM folder.
