Has a configurable hud and allows for graphical improvements if you want them, and it works with a lot of different classic ID games.

A screenshot of a type of doom hud in zdoom. It's configurable so you can change it how you need it to be, and can display monster counts, item pickups, hidden areas, and more so you can see if you 100%ed a level or not.
I beleve Zandronum has a configurable HUD as well and supports a more modern multiplayer browser for doom as well, it that's something that interests you. It's supposed to be the spiritual successor to the Skulltag source port.
